Help needed for teaching kids to dance!

I'm teaching a bunch of kids tommorow and need to come up with some 'dance moves'. The subject is transformation (from a snail to a princess). I have no idea when it comes to dancing despite being a full-time music maker, but the school has asked me to teach them so i need help from you guys!

So far I have thought of the usual...

Stamp your feet and clap
Stamp feet one at a time then slap knees (ala Queen 'We will rock you')
Snail pose

I thought about doing some funny dance moves (to adults anyway) including the 'personal hygiene' move where you lift one arm and look like you're sniffing, but the OH thinks it's rubbish and the adults won't get it.

Any and all suggestions really, REALLY welcome!

P.S. I have to teach the kids this and don't want to look like too much of an idiot, I have a glare that could melt steel (or so I have been told) and this might confuse the little ones; serious-looking fella doing stupid moves.

Sorry! Can't dance for toffee!

Don't envy you this task!!

Good luck!

Shud have thought of that!

Please send the link into MISC!!!!

:-D

Start on knees, bodies bent forward stretching hands as far forward as possible, chest and chins on ground, eyes facing forward. - Basic snail shape.

Slowly draw arms towards body, raise chest from floor, moving arms to sides, . Finish in a kneeling position with arms at side, palms against sides, head bent forward, looking at ground. Kneeling penitent position.

Slowly raise head until facing audience. Using fingertips on floor to steady, raise knees off floor and come to a crouching position.

Then slowly straighten up and stretch hands above head, looking up at fingertips.

Do a "Mad Lizzie" shakeout then put together a sequence of the claps and stamps that you were planning to use.

The transitions can be done smoothly or with shakes/twisting movements as you like.

Hope this helps but please feel free to ignore completely!

Best of luck with show.

Thanks for all suggestions! Kids are primary school (I'm teaching the whole lot!) and the show is to be performed on Friday. I can't video it unfortunatly as I would have to get release papers signed by all the kids parents! I might appear drunk on Youtube oneday re-enacting the routine :P

Thanks for the good luck wishes - I'm not really used to working with children that age, Worried this is going to turn out something like Kindergarten Cop (Minus the FBI shooting and copping off with divorced mum with criminal husband part!) :-D

Don't want to meet CannyScot on the dance floor, think they'd win all the good looking ones!

Advice sounds good. obviously likes to strut their stuff on the floor!

Just an update, I finished off a routine last night. I got a standing ovation from the teachers, A STANDING OVATION mind you! Still don't think I'm ready for strutting my stuff on a friday night though (never will be :-P)
