Help needed for Tracked parcel

Basically i sold something on ebay and posted it to the buyer with a tracked 48 label. I then gave it to my girlfriend to post but she has just told me she posted it in a letter box!! Would the item still get to the buyer and would it still be trackable?? Let me know guys, i really don’t want the buyer claiming they didn’t receive it
