most important thing is make sure you can get a uk voltage mains charger either with it or over here.

all laptops (99.9% ) have a multi-voltage charger as ppl take them abroad all the time
remember it will have a us keyboard (will lower resale value ) warranty may not be worldwide and with the carp exchange rate pounds do not go far so you may not bag a bargain

Bargains can't be had in America anymore, well they can but they are no where near as good as they used to be. Bear in mind that the main reason for the "bargain" tag was the exchange rate being in excess of 1.50, with it now being 1.25 (slightly generous) The prices and hassle if something goes wrong isn't worth it IMO.

Consider buying a 2nd hand/refurbished business laptop off Ebay. I've bought two in the past and had no issues with them.

    just my 2 cents

best deal imo give cash to the person in asia
    then no customs issues
    will have local keyboard
will probably be cheaper than the us
especially if buying a refurb/ 2nd had machine far better to buy where it will be used

to get round customs charges you'd probably have to unbox it and say you are using it btw so it might not work out.

Surely though it would be an expensive flight to Asia?

you had a budget of $300-350 but now you're asking about $800 laptops (more once you add sales tax)

    whats the point
