First you need a caddy to allow one drive to be hooked up externally over USB, something like this (ebay 250268032220) will do the job for a temporary connection or a 2.5in USB caddy if you want a permanent enclosure.

Next up you need to clone the drive over to the new one if you want an exact copy, I'd try something like Acronis which has a 15 day fully functional trial which should be enough time for what you need.

This is probably the easiest way since there is no software needed, but means buying from QVC. It links two computers via USB.

Deleting and transferring computer files is no longer a job for a computer whiz - with the Tornado everyone can do it! The Tornado is a smart cable that has software built into it which transfers files. Just plug it into the USB ports of both PCs and it will automatically bring up the screen for file transfer. It also comes with eraser software that wipes information from a PC up to government standard, which is essential if you want to re-sell it. Plus it's small enough to easily carry from place to place. It requires Windows 98SE or higher.

Sorry misunderstood what you were doing. Yes, the caddy is your best option then.

i would say USB to IDE/SATA cable converter like this: tinyurl.com/6jaszy would be a much cheaper option
