Help needed please. How to motivate a telesales team

Other than threatening them with their P45s

That program with Ruth Badger had something like they had to sell 20 of something to win a prize

have you got any suggestions to make a 'fun' rewarding day?

BTW - this is a serious question so I'd appreciate serious suggestions please

As cringeworthy/american as it sounds I'd reccomend taking a look at the FISH! philosophy, - I was sceptical at first but have seen incredibly unmotivated/uninspired teams completely turned round by this method. Just be careful how it is first "sold" to your staff - if people get involved it will work.

Take them karting, it gets the competitive juices flowing and punishes the fat ones.

What about operating a 10 min downtime every couple of hours. Then play music or a game. Takes the mind off the monotonous job they're doing. Or seperate into groups and the winning group get a weekly prize.

You need to run an incentive scheme, I used to work in telesales and was rewarded for getting so many customers to sign up. We got shopping vouchers which seemed to keep everyone motivated and willing to work.

a prize thing for most sales sounds best

my son had something similar where he worked, they also used to get a raffle ticket for each sale that went into a draw at the end of the month.......he won an ipod and was well chuffed!

I say give 'em their P45's!

Nah, how about a word game....the first one to get a specified word into conversation with the customer wins! (Obviously, within reason and without the customer realising!)

I will be giving prizes but i dont know what they will be yet. I'm sure prize for most sales would be good. I like the word thing but was struggling with a word to use - thought of lots but nothing suitable! LOL
I do like the idea of a raffle ticket for each sale. Apparently its to make it a 'fun' day - when I know a bit more about it I'll have a better idea but all suggestions gratefully received!!!
    Thanks

I had to watch that at work

Have a raffle, for every sale they get a ticket, the prizes only need to be low value then have another raffle where for every 20 sales they get a go in that one where the prizes are better

Say cakes / sweets / chocolate in the first one and money and booze in the second

There was a programme on a few months ago, and it featured a call centre trying to sell insurance. The staff were all highly motivated by stuff like

Next person to say "Thats tremendous" in a call wins
Next person to sell something wins
First person to say "fantastic" twice in a call wins

They only won a bar of chocolate or something but it worked. Just getting them to vary what they say and try to be more enthusiastic than saying "thanks" or "thats great". Also prizes for most enthusiastic and mostly friendly and stuff, show you are noticing the staff and appreciate them.

Prizes dont have to be big, its about being noticed and appreciated, and also having fun at the end of the day.

I think the raffle ticket idea is a good one too

    Pay them more
    Money talks........
Go karting days out ????

Give them days off/an extra day of holiday for whoever does the most sales in a month or whatever.

tell them every time they make a sale they will receive a raffle ticket, you write their name on the ticket and placed in a jar, then at the end of the week you will pick a raffle ticket and the winner gets a bottle of wine and on monday doesnt have to be in till 11am or get to leave 3pm (but still get paid for the couple of hours they are not in) so the more sales they have the more raffle tickets the better chances of winning.:)
