HELP NEEDED PLEASE. with samsung g600 USB lead ??

i just bought a new USB lead from ebay and it arrived today.

i just plugged it into my phone and then to my laptop and opened up the samsung pc studio and it says not connected. then i get a message popping up saying:

'one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned. and windows does not recognise it.'

any ideas what i can do? or is the USB lead faulty?

    thanks
