Go to windows explorer & find the directory with the photos in, Select View > Details.

What the type of file have they been saved as ? Probably not *.jpg or *.bmp etc as it would be recognised by photobucket. Think that's the problem - it may be an unknown file type (ie the extension at end of file name)

I thought all Camera files were JPEG ??

Try zamzar.com/con…php otherwise ?

But photobucket accepts jpgs - it's the format I upload all my pics in. If it's saying invalid file type that's all I can think off - ie it's an invalid extension or has been amended once downloaded to remove *.jpg from file name. That's why I asked how they were listed on her hard drive - another bit of the puzzle ;-)

No probs hon It should say in File Type column, but what about File Name column ? If it has .jpg at the end of each photo name as well then I'm stumped as to why photobucket won't upload it because it's an invalid file when you select it from your computers directory

Is the actual picture file name :

picture001.jpg
or
picture001.jpeg ?

Come on Rockhound, you're a clever person - fresh ideas here pretty please :geek:

EDIT : been browsing photobucket forums for help. There's a troublesshooting guide with steps to check if you can't upload here >
]http//fo…ror

They've also suggested : It sounds like those xx images may be corrupt. Can you please open them with graphics software and re-save them. Sometimes people just change the extension and think that will change the actual file properties, however it does not. They need to be physically re-saved with appropriate software.
That solution is mentioned a lot for upload errors.

It shouldn't have an 'e' in middle. It's called a jpeg but the extension is *.jpg - always 3 letters. Eg a bitmap is a *.bmp etc. Why the camera uploaded it as that I don't know. When you uploaded images did you just copy them straight from memory card or did you use the camera software to upload them in case they need to be converted ?

I'm not sure if changing the file name will help, as it may be wrongly formatted. Take one of the files & create a copy (right click when file highlighted & select copy) then paste it (right click again) into the same directory (but don't highlight anything this time so it doesn't overwrite anything) but add something to the file name or just leave it with the word 'copy' in front of file name & then change the ext to jpg - eg

pic00001.jpeg
is copied & copy is renamed
pic00001test.jpg (add anything to duplicates title so you know which one it is)

Then try & upload the copy to photobucket & cross everything - toes, fingers, everything :w00t:

No probs, REALLY pleased it worked. It was nothing you did wrong it was something weird with your webcam software to save the extension as *.jpeg. Really, really, really, really weird :giggle: At least the actual picture is in the correct format (now that would have been complicated) & it was only the wrong file extension name - yeah ! :w00t:

.jpeg is a valid file extension - just one that photobucket etc doesnt recognise as valid.

Maybe the option settings in the webcam software has an option to save the image files as .jpg? Worth having a look. If its there, it will save you having to rename the files!

Looks like I missed some REP then...................

I always knew it was the macs fault :-D > ]http//ww…tml

If the default settings on the webcam can't be changed see if you can download some updated software from the manufacturers website.

Do you know you can't find a man when you need one & then two come along at once .......... :whistling:
