oh yeah  trying to find them at the moment, probably filled away somewhere (in the bin) never to seen again knowing my luck

You don't change the refresh rate on the TV. The refresh rate isn't set by the TV but by the box connecting to it, and the TV just automatically syncs to whatever the box outputs, providing it's within its range. Chances are, the TV won't be able to sync to any refresh rate higher than 60hz, so you need to set the Vtech box to output 60Hz. How you do that, I'd suggest either with a full reset (check the manual - it'll usually involve holding down a combo of buttons for several seconds) or that you connect the box to another TV or monitor that you know it works with, and change the refresh rate down to 60hz, and then reconnect to the Samsung. You'll probably want the manual for that, too. Or better still, Ella's dad.

Ella's dad is less clued up than me and that doesnt give us much hope :-D

I think the Vtech box runs at 50Hz so the tv should adjust to that??

Yup, should do. I think the Wii runs at 50hz, and my Samsung 40" worked fine with it, so your Vtech should have no bother.
