help on warranty on car

I know there is something in the law that says it is unreasonable for a product to go faulty just outwith its warranty i.e a month. I know this applies to electrical products does it also apply to cars. My alternator in my car went just 1 month outwith the warranty.

Firstly what make of car is it?
Has it been main dealer serviced since new?
Whats the mileage?

Chances are that if you answered yes to the second question and the mileage is say less than 60,000 the dealer should ask the manufacture to either contribute towards the cost or pay outright.

is there any legislation i could quote or is it simply goodwill? doesnt it say it is unreasonable to break just outwith its warranty or something like that

A Ford dealer will not help with the costs - the car is out of warranty!!!!

Why not go to a non franchised dealer who would charge you far less?
Also do you know anyone mechanically minded who could do the job for you cheaper?
You could buy a good second hand alternator from a breakers or buy a refurbished one for far cheaper than you have been quoted.

Bad news I'm afraid unless you go down the route of goodwill but I would say that the dealer you had it from, although giving you 12 months of warranty would argue that the defective part has reached it's shelf life of 3 years.

Sorry, hope you get something of a goodwill gesture from them.

Regards Rob.
