Help please choosing a label maker? i have no idea what to get...to label school library books?

need to print small labels maybe 2-3cm wide by 1cm approx...to label the school library books spines with the initial of the author to alphabetise

ive seen dymo ones and brother but i dont know if its like printers where its better to get one make over another due to running costs? ink and labels. I dont want to get a cheap printer to find labels cost the earth.

Has anyone any recommendation please? also if it can print say 20 As at a time it would help ie not having to stand and press A A over and over!

    Thanks all in advance xx

actually, I'm thinking sticky paper type labels for a labelwriter and … actually, I'm thinking sticky paper type labels for a labelwriter and you are thinking plastic types which I know little about.

me either...would i be better with paper ones? are they durable?

I have bought Dymo and Seiko Label printers for my work. The seiko labels tend to be cheaper.

Dymo recently (end of last year) had a cashback promotion which might be worth looking out for if they do it again, I think it was £100 cashback if you bought a printer and 12 rolls of labels.

Both printers will allow you to print any number of the same labels but you can also do a mail merge type thing to print say 20 different labels at once.

im looking at something like this 300706976352 as my budget is small oO and its donated £ so i need to spend wisely!

Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a Seiko SLP 100 at work that you could have for the price of postage.

It needs a power supply but one of the variable voltage ones should do. It has paint on it as it is used for labelling paint tins.

If you do want it I will check it is working Monday.

The labels are 89mm*28mm but you can put several on a label and cut them to suit.

If you're looking for that printer you listed from eBay, you should be able to get it cheaper from WHSmith delivered (I think ~£20). Anyway, I have this and it prints on paper and plastic strips (feed from a catridge). Although a great standalone printer/label maker, the catridges are too expensive.

A thank you for your generosity shown towards another HUKDer.

No problem, using collect+ would be no problem as there is one near my work.

I will check if it is working on Monday and then work out the weights and normal postage cost so you can choose.

Checked the printer today and it is working fine. I have also found a 2 pin power adapter and a shaving type 2 pin socket.
The weight is just under 1Kg and postage is £4.30 1st class or £3.50 2nd class.
Let me know how you want it delivered.

    Sorry,
I have just tested the printer again and it does seem to have a problem, the label fails to feed uniformly which results in the label printing on top of already printed characters.
This is probably why it was put aside.

so it doesnt work? a shame if not...

so which do i buy then? i need paper labels...

Churchill the kermit i got with the codes from you arrived yesterday so i guess yours will be along soon (_;)

If you want pucker labels, then you can get them from specialist library suppliers......but they are probably pricey.

If you are doing the books in batches then cheapest way is to use paper labels on an A4 sheet, then cover the label with good quality sellotape (this tends to dry out though). Dedicated label protectors would probably be better than sellotape....

ooooh thanks!!! they wanted £4.95 postage so looked on ebay letter sheets and got 4 packs so almost 2000 labels for just over £5!!! i dont need the printer i guess atm! I didnt think i could buy labels so cheap..and im quite happy to use sellotape to cover them!

    Thanks all of you xx

    Yes sorry it doesn't work
It prints then instead of advancing the paper it prints again over the top then advances the paper properly while printing. It does this randomly. Probably a problem with the plastic gears in the motor.
Well done for getting your ebay bargain.
