Hi everyone,

Can anyone shed any light on this problem I have.

I am trying to reinstall XP on a Dell Mini that doesn't currently have XP on it, when I boot I am getting this message:

s107.photobucket.com/alb…jpg

I have googled it for help but just seem to be going round in circles.

Cheers for reading,

Steveo.

You should check your bio's settings and make sure the Hard drive is set up properly or perhaps in the bio's settings, "load bio's default's"

Usually "Delete" button or F2 to access bio's settings.

Also could be a dodgy Harddrive, If no luck in bio's check all the cable's etc...

Failing that when I've had problem's installing windows I've installed Linux and been successful, then it usually warns you of a possible harddrive failure.

Yes, Ubuntu that's the one I mean.

okay, thanks. will try that.

I had one hell of a time re-installing xp on this thing due to the hdd controller drivers not being recognised. they use a custom version that has the drivers slipstreamed into it. I had to make a usb iso with the drivers added to be able to recognise the hdd on re-install. Good luck

I think some early XP disks did not recognise SATA hard drives. It will only install on IDE drives.

Because SATA is a different technology XP does the "see" the SATA drive to install it on.

well its the original hard drive, and the version of xp is what came with it.

if in bios there is option under sata to use AHCI turn it off / disable and choose IDE , ATA / PATA or ide emulation/ emulated

I am using the ultimate boot cd for windows as well which allows me to get in to my computer, drives, etc is there anything I could do from there maybe?

Is Parted Magic on there? Try that.

its not, but there is one there called EASEUS Partition Manager, should I try that? And yes it did previously have Snow Leopard.

Original Poster

I just opened up EASEUS and it showed one partition, and all the options were greyed out so couldn't really get very far

Okay, now sorted. I put ubuntu on disc(wouldn't boot from usb stick), installed it, reset, and it let me install xp
