    Thanks everyone. Rep left

I'll leave rep tomorrow cuz i've been told i've left to much already lol

I dont think you can. My sister in law got made redundant few weeks ago and they said they wont pay her till after her redundancy has been spent. Also they said she probably wont be get any money other than her N.I contributions paid due to her partner (my brother) working full time and earning enough to support her (in their books). They said they work out how much redundancy and noptice in leiu etc and work out when she is entitled to them to start paying even though they wont as their household income can support both of them. Or something like that. Local Jobcentre to us is **** and said she wasnt entitled to anything at all and when you phone up national number they told her all that. I dont think what they said is correct but anyhow, dont think you will be able to not tell them as they ask for proof of redundancy and any money you got paid and as you have to give them details about the job they will know how much redundancy you should of been paid. Also i wouldnt lie as if you get caught you could get done for benefit fraud!! Good luck - you will need it with the jobcentre. Hope you find a new job soon. x

Thanks for your help holly. Thats a shame really cuz i didn't want to touch my redundancy i wanted to put it in a high savings account. Never mind.

You can claim contribution based jsa equal to £60 per week if you have savings above the threshold or income based jsa if under, along with other benefits like income support and also be entitled to free prescriptions/NHS treatment, Happened to me last year when I got made redundant.

It may look bleak but you'll be ok. My new job (which I got quite quickly) is better plus I have a healthy lump sum in savings.

ps you can book in to see a jobcentre plus advisor now and they will take you through each step.

Thanks for your help choc1969....panic over lol...i will have savings yaaaayyy

    Thanks DLM

As said previously, you can claim Income Based Jobseekers Allowance if you have savings of less than £6000. If you have more than that in savings and have been working for a while you can claim Contribution Based Jobseekers Allowance based on how much you have contributed in taxes. You can call 0845 606 0234 to start the ball rolling for your claim.

really sad, everyone i seem to talk to lately are loosing jobs, darn credit crunch etc..
really sorry about your job, i hope things work out ok for you though,

I was made redundant on Aug 18th, because I had my week in hand, plus £102 owed from my holiday entitlement, which my boss conveniently forgot about, and paid me a week later. I received my first payment last week. Should have got it Sept 6th but the Jobby place messed up and was late.

In short first day of redundancy phone them up, do the form on the phone, book an appointment to go to your local dole office. I get £60.50 a week so no reason at all you shouldn't.

So sorry to hear about the news, but sounds like you got a plan. All the best.

Thanks pcnutta, tony7373 and kippy for your help i really appreciate it. How do i work out holiday pay entitlement? Thanks

I claimed JSA but it wasn't income based, it was just based on the fact I had paid my National Insurance over the years. I had a lot of redundancy money and it didn't make a difference. You can claim JSA for up to to 6 months then it has to be reviewed.

whats your holiday entitlement in full. Then as you'll be in Oct thats 9 months holiday entitlement already held. Take away the days you have taken, include bank holidays if they are included and you should be left with you holidays still to be paid.

Eg I had 24 days holiday per year equals 2 days per month
Left after 8 months so 16 days held.
took 10 days had 4 for bank holidays, so 14 days used leaves 2 still to be paid.

I lost my job 3 weeks ago, but was in shock so took a while to apply for JSA, its only paid from the date you claim so ring them asap

You probably get nothing then in way of unused holiday pay, I think its only calculated on full months worked.

Don't forget to do everything the first day of your redundancy, as its said here it is calculated from the day YOU first claim not when you last worked.

    Hi Mackenzie,

Sorry to hear of your dilema....
I too was made redundant in December and as people have commented
you can claim contribution based Job Seekers Allowance for a period of
upto 6 months.Phone straight away. You will be asked a lot of Questions (allow upto an
hour). They will give you an appointment at your local Jobcentre plus and send you a
statement of the answers you gave during the phone call to take with you to sign.
After six months you will then be means tested as to how much savings you have
    including your childrens saving accounts..
    HOWEVER

It's not just a case of sitting at home waiting for the £60.50 a week to go into
your bank account. You will have to prove each time you go to sign on (fortnightly) that
you are actively seeking employment by keeping a record of jobs you have applied for
ie Jobs applied for, Company name, Contact name, Telephone calls, On-line applications etc
Failure to do this could affect payment for your claim for JSA....

Also after 13 weeks I had to widen the search area for the type of work I was seeking..
Not just from the type of employment background I had come from..

Do not turn up late or cancel your signing on appointment without good reason
as again this could affect payment for your claim for JSA...

Check locally for Joblink as they have money available to help retrain ( I believe up to £600)
It is Government funded. I have just renewed my two FLT licences through them..
My nearest was Smethwick. West Midlands.
They will also help you write your CV..

My one tip to you would be to adapt your Cv to the type of vacancy you are applying for..
Don't have one, you think will cover all jobs..

    Good Luck and Best Wishes
    Akastiggy
Ps sorry to waffle on for so long..

    sorry to hear hun.x
