HELP PLEASE - Links to Free Anti Virus Software for LINUX operating system

    Hi Peeps!

I have just bought elderly father in law a notebook. It has a Linux operating system. I want to install free anti virus software and i'm used to using AVG. I tried to download a linux version (7.5) but i asked for a password, which I don't have!

Can anyone suggest a good FREE antivirus or give me some help in installing the 7.5 edition with info on what the password needs to be.

Any help really would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    Sally

Many of them lose faith in me as a source of security information when I reply, "None." But you really don't need to fear malware on your new platform, thanks to the way Linux is built.

tazxxx I'm a little confused - do you know how I can find this out?

    THANKS

sb123 why are you so desperate for AV?

I am sure as more people pick up linux viruses may come, however the info above about not needing one is true. The guy who wrote it is an author on Linux.

Also wikipedia states no virus has ever got widespread in Linux.

might be helpful to post what model laptop, then there's a chance of finding out which distro it is based on and the correct install package.
