Sounds like you need new drivers for your wireless card on the laptop.

umm all I know is the drivers are installed, its a Dell True Mobile 1150 Series Mini-PCI Card do you know what drivers I need, thank you for your help

    Latest driver - support.dell.com/sup…951

Made in 2003 though, so you've probably already got it!

Yup, no point using Wep, can be cracked in under a minute.

You could of course be sensible and not bother protecting your wi-fi. That way it seems like you have nothing to hide to everyone... hell, i've got a wireless n that stretches half way down my street - if someone joins it I get a little pop-up on my pc. These networks work both ways...

Good example of what NOT to do.

Nice, people can if they want inspect all data across your network, that includes getting all your login details for everything from email, forums, paypal, ebay and online banking.

And you really think that I save my login details on my laptop? And cookies for that matter..? My main pc isnt on the wireless network, as it is connected to a wired router on a different port. The wireless is used for laptop and Xbox...

so your the one hacking them?

Interesting idea actually..... set up unprotected wifi which covers as large an area as possible... wait for people to log on and then start sniffing their traffic! They'll think they've hit the jackpot finding an open network but little do they know you're snooping at their stuff!

p.s. To the OP -- are you using the Windows Zero Config utility to connect to the wireless? (it's computerworld.com/com…gif) or are you using some other utility (like one provided by Dell, for example)?

I realise I might be completely wrong but could it not be the security mode settings on the router?

I dont think i've made it very clear what I have in my home have I?

Main PC hardwired to an old wireless router (with the wireless turned off)

Wireless router connected to a separate port supplying xbox, sisters laptop and iphone... with limited bandwidth i must add...

Since my sister only uses the lappy for hotmail and messenger, with all cookies and form data not being kept, surely this is ok right?

I merely have a bit of fun on my laptop with other people every now and then...

    (PS - I'm a w***er, i know =/)
