    help please,if poss,

    hi there,got a prob,bought a lcd tv in dec 2005 from argos, just blew today.
    dont know loads about teles,anyone know any good deals for a 20" tv,for kids room.Seems electric goods always blow or go belly up near me,maybe im to electric or im in touch with my physic(that looks wrong!) side

    thin you will find that Consumer Goods have to be "durable". Check citizens advice website. Even though out of warranty, I would expect a TV to last longer than 13 months - hence not durable.

    These people will advise, much better than Citizens advice for this sort of thing.

    If you don't get any luck claiming a refund from Argos I'd buy the same model TV again (assuming it's still available) and then a month later take it back to the shop after it mysteriously blew up :whistling:

    As already stated, under the sale of goods act all products must be fit for their original purpose. And the original life expectancy for a tv is (under UK law) 5 years. (That is why this 5 year warranty BS is a waste of time, unless you get it free of course, as it normally is easier to get a straight forward result). Anyway baclk on track even without a receipt you should get a refund. (But this will probably be partial considering you have had good use of the tv for quite a while.) The law does take into account depreciation on all goods.

    If Argos do not give you any joy I would consider spending a few hours searching online for legal advice on this because if you do bring the original manufacturer into the equation then Argos are no longer liable. as you have involved a third party. (You are number one the buyer, and Argos, the vendor are number 2, your dealings are always with the vendor unless you hit a brick wall, then go direct to the manufacturer (number 3.)

    Although on 90% of occasions manufacturers give you a good result immediately (unless your called FOXCONN of course, but that is my own personal vendetta, lol), it is still better to try Argos, then do a little search on the net and find exactly where you stand. But I guarantee that if your prepared to spare 3/4 hours in total of your time to chase this up you will get a result!!!
