HELP REGARDING A SPAM ZOMBIE PLEASE

    Banned
    Hoping someone can help me...

ive got a PC and a netbook, my partner said about 2 weeks ago that we had a virus as he couldnt get on anything and all that was coming up was a screen saying we needed to pay for anti virus, nothing else on the netbook would work at all. My partner managed to what he thought get rid of the virus and we could use the netbook again, only to find it was mega slow and wouldnt load any webpages, so we started using the pc while we tried variuous different things on the netbook, that was when i got a phone call from my internet provider to say that my connection had contracted a "spam zombie" and was sending spam to ppl.

we went through all the steps that they provided us with to get rid of it, and its done nothing at all, netbook is slow and wont load any webpages, and pc now takes about 3 hours to start up, freezes and blocks thing???

anyone help really have no idea what to do

The virus has completely hijacked Windows, so you need to run a scan using a bootdisk.

If I were you, I'd use this: techmixer.com/bit…es/

You download the file, burn it to a CD (using a program like ImgBurn), and then boot your computer from the disk (if you don't know how to do that see here: hiren.info/pag…rom -- the button you press might not be Del, it might be F12 or something else)

What this accomplishes is running a scan off the disk without loading into Windows. If you load into Windows, the virus will interfere with any attempts that you make to remove it but if you run a scan from outside Windows, then the virus is not running and therefore can't interfere (as much).

Viruses like these are a real pain the **** and it may take you a while to get rid of it as there is no easy solution but follow the steps above (even if they're outside your computing comfort zone) and you'll get it sorted. Only alternative is taking it to a PC repair shop and they'll do exactly the same thing (and probably tell you that you need to buy a new x, y and z...)

Thanks will try that only problem is netbook has no disk drive? x

Ah yes, forgot about that! Well you can use a USB stick instead (at least a 1GB one I think).

Instead of burning it to a CD, use ]Unetbootin to make your USB bootable. Select "disk image" and "iso" and then point it to the bitdefender iso and it'll do the rest.

You'll have to set up your computer to boot from a USB drive in the BIOS, as described hiren.info/pag…rom (but select USB instead or CDROM)

If you have an Acer Aspire, I think you can just insert the USB drive, turn the computer on and press F12 which will give you a list of devices to boot from - select USB and you're away!
edit: this is the menu on an Acer Aspire i'm talking about: netbooktech.com/wp-…jpg
hit F12 here and select USB from the menu which comes up and then press Enter. It'll then load up the anti-virus from your USB stick.
