It's probably just that it's only been tested and known for certain to work with those systems. It'll just be part of Dell's testing procedure where nothing can be said for sure to be compatible unless it's been tested. I don't see any reason why it won't work fine with everything.

I picked up a brand new dell optical mouse from ebay for around £4 delivered. Is the laser one any better? :?

I don't know, maybe. The spec looks okay, and it seems to have the forward and back buttons that I find totally essential for interweb and folder browsing, but I don't know who makes it, and I'm not sure if I could ever touch a mouse not made by Logitech and not costing more than £40. I am a snob, but I just think it makes sense to splash out maybe more than I really should on the device that connects me to the system and that's going to be used so much and for so long. It does look fairly decent, though.

laser mice are better, they can work on surfaces that optical mice struggle on.
