Help Required Please - Re Laptop recovery disks

    Hi clever people.

I am helping a friend get their laptop fixed and the person who's repairing it says they need to replace the hard drive and will need the recovery disks - which we don't have.
I've tried googling recovery disks for the laptop make/model and just get very confused!
Can anyone help point me in the right direction of what I need please?
The laptop is a Compaq Presario F700
    Thanks is anticipation.

have a look underneath the laptop and there will be a sticker on there with either XP or Vista. The guy then just needs a copy of the media for either Windows, XP or Vista. He does not need the original disks and all the drivers he should be able to find.

He will need an OEM copy.

Is the hard drive dead or can you access it to get to the i386 folder?

install xp / vista as per the COA under your laptop, download the drivers from hp site (Link below)

You dont need recovery disks, i tend to remove the OEM version / image and reinstall OS without the manufacturer's bloatware.

Thanks for your help guys, although I am totally confused, I have no idea on how to repair laptops, this is what I was told

"Looks like the Hard drive where windows is installed might be chuffed it’s got a lot of un-readable sector which is bad bit like a scratched cd when it get to your fav track it jumps, but I am going to try and get it working again if not that what will need to be replaced and without recovery cd’s this is going to be a hard to fix."

He said he would try to create some recovery disks, but wasn't able to so said I'd need some, it had vista on it if that makes any difference.

    What do I do??

all u need to do is wipe the hard drive, i think kill disk is something u can use but just double check, then as long as u have oem software for the right operating version, i.e if its xp or vista it should be fine, to re-install altho as you dont have the receovery disks you wont have all the bundled software,

Compaq Presario F700 comes with a "recovery partition" on your hard drive. You CAN create recovery disk yourself (If you have not already done so coz the system lets you create only one set of recovery disks). Look at Section-8, Page 103 on how to create recovery disks. Hope this helps.

there is usually a recovery drive on the laptop, which is why you may not have cd's with it. You hit a certain key on boot up think its F8.
