    Help Security Tool virus

Hi,my Daughters laptop has this Security Tool virus. Any ideas on how I can get rid of it. It won't allow me to download any spyware. I did have it on but it seems to have disabled it.

Please help, I'm not very technical so please be patient with me.

    Thanks

it wil allow you to d/l malwarebytes
but then it won't allow you to run it, but if you right click on the malwarebytes file and click start it will work.

Thanks, just running avg in safe mode, probably won't find it though. I will try and download malwarebytes and keep my fingers crossed..............

try this, hold ctrl, alt delete keys and bring up task manager, once that opens up, application tab and if security tools is showing right click mouse button to end task and then file new task, type in explorer.exe and desktop should run as normal run some spyware and hopefully that should help you and then run it in safe mode

you could also create the AVG Boot Disk: avg.com/ie-…-cd

either for CD or USB Stick

if its the same one i had to remove last week was a git, it wont even let you run task manager.

The process that runs is a tring of letters and numbers with .exe at the end, what i did was create a shortcut to TaskMan and put that in the startup group

Reboot my PC in normal node Taskman then starts before the spyware kicks in, find the process name and kill it, then search the Reg for it and delete.

Reboot and run malware scanning and it should be clear. If it is the same one it puts a little green shield in the system tray I think

The start up files for these are usually hidden in the application data folder in windows hidden files.

I have just removed one version of this from my brother in laws pc. I would suggest first download a small application called Unlocker. After you instal this you can right click on the icons in your system tray and tell unlocker to delete them. It may say that it cannot try again and it will give the option of removing them during a reboot. Do this.
Then after restarting go to Windows Explorer and select from the tools menu folder options then view and check the display hidden folders option.
This will then allow you to go to the application data folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS
Here you will find the folder containing the malware, usually just a number like 906280266 or some similar rubbish. Double click to open then delete the contents, delete the folder. Use Unlocker if it is stubborn. Once you get rid of this, you are safe. A general registry cleaner like AWC will remove any traces in the registry after this but they are no longer harmful.

    run malwarebytes in safe mode
    worked for me

ANOTHER AVG user who has a fake security virus on their machine.
doesnt this happen almost every day or so on here?

thank god for malwarebytes, but AVG is seriously bad.

my PC is on 24/7 and before running Norton NIS 2010, I was using Eset and before that Bitdefender.
I've never had more than the odd trojan attack which didnt get into my system and never ever gotten any of these fake AV softwares to install.

Hi, just to update anyone interested. I logged on in safemode and downloaded spybot and malware bytes. Ran both of them and they both found different things. Reloaded normally and things seem OK at the moment, she has been on there for past hour with no problems.

Thanks everyone for your help. I always come onto here to ask for help as you all have so much knowledge and your suggestions always work.

    Thanks

These things have been out for a while but are now very popular . I just had to fix a brand new HP laptop the other night for the very same thing . They really criple your OS and cause lots of problems .
A word of advice : GET HOLD OF MALWAREBYTES NOW ! and install it , GET SUPERANTISPYWARE too and install that . So, when you get this malware your armed and ready .
Boot your OS in safe mode and run Malwarebytes first . The malware will be gone !
