Help with a broken Playstation 3!

When I switch my playstation on, the yellow light flashes then changes to a red flashing light and it bleeps! According to the manual, it means it is overheating. Any ideas on whether this can be fixed? Or even how I can get it to eject my brand new Fight Night 4 that is inside?

for £150 notes...or take out the service plan and make a claim...naughty but people have done it..

It depends on the age of the PS3. Mine was 2 1/2 years old and they replaced it FOC. They also replaced the game that was stuck inside.

Brother had the same problem and had COD4 inside (was distraught, lol) he turned off, left for 30 mins, unplugged, took away from the TV, used a fan to blow on the PS3 (he was desperate) plugged back in, held his finger on the power button when plugged back in and his console worked, but at least he had his game back, his was out of guarantee so he opened it and gave it a clean, was so dirty inside and it is working fine now, worth a punt and good luck (let us know if it worked)

Wow - hadn't realised this - I thought they head stuck in the sand about it, but obviously not.

Fair play to them, some people have really taken the mick with it - doubly glad my policy is up and running now, as they are not taking new signs ups anymore.

EDIT: Just read that they will be cancelling existing policies too - not best pleased - will be on the phone on Mon morning

A slim hope that it could be too much dust......

Do this a couple of times to see if it get any better ......it might even let u eject the disc thats stuck ...

- Turn PS3 off completely, including flicking the power switch on the back.
- Turn it back on, while simultaneously holding the eject button.

All the PS3's internal fans will whirr loudly as the PS3 enters the self-maintenance mode. This apparently reverses the direction of all fans, sucking dust out OUT of console.

- After roughly ten seconds your PS3 will return to standby mode.

have the same problem, broke about 2 weeks ago also with cod 4 inside (i could've cried) But looking on the internet its quite common and its hardrive failure, so im going to buy a bigger one, 500gb for £60 and put that in.

Where did you read they were cancelling existing policies its not on the link on here ? they say
"We will of course honour existing customer's policies and look to amend the existing provision so that it is less vulnerable to exploitation"

Any links? I would be surprised if a new hard drive would cure it.

I was reading the Eurogamer forum about it - somebody said:

Small update for other user of this service.

Spoke to someone who wasn't a moron and she found the details via accounting and I should get a replacement Monday.

Now the bad bit, the next time this policy comes up for an anniversary, Sony are going to cancel it! How nice of them to save you £5 a month.

They may offer you an alternative, but I can't see it being as favourable.

I shall be phoning tomorrow to check the situation out for myself.

Have been in touch with sony - they say a major component has gone and will replace the ps3 for £145 with a refurbished one (ones that have been returned from shops, or that have failed quality checks when they were made - then re fixed as new) and will also take my broken one away and either replace my fight nite 4 with a new one, or get the existing one out for me.
have taken them up on the offer.

Follow up on Continuous Play:

Spoke to D&G, who told me that ALL policies were going to be cancelled - chap had received an email to that effect this morning - and we would be getting a letter through the post confirming this soon (couldn't give me a timescale)

Then spoke to Sony, who said that existing policies would continue to be honoured, but that the terms and conditions would be changing - in future, reporting faults etc will be done through Sony, rather than through D&G (Dyson do the same thing with their D&G policy holders)

So that is about as clear as mud, and I guess I will just wait to hear from one or the other of them confirming what they are actually going to be doing (not sure if they actually know themselves yet!).
