Help with a new TV/Phone/BB provider

    Hi all,

I am just about to move home and am searching for a decent deal that fits my criteria. I think that I may have just missed out on the recent Sky deal, but I wasn't expecting my house chain to move so quickly.

I am currently with Virgin media, but it seems a bit pricey, coming it at close to £70 a month. For M channels, BB and evening and weekend calls.

Can anyone recommend a suitable provider for my needs which are:
TV: need a box that will record, will only be set up in one room (for at least the first year - only have one TV). Only really record terrestrial channels and those included in the M package with Virgin have been fine. Needs to be able to receive Netflix. HD, not that bothered about it.
BB: moderate speeds to play games online comfortably. No restrictions on downloads would be preferable.
    Phone: evening and weekend only.

    Thanks for any help.

    JB

Hi ther, I rang sky a few days ago and asked the man what deals he has for sky movies and kids channels, and for line rental and broadband and for the free 32 inch telly.the firat price he give me was £77 I said that I'm looking for something a little cheeper and he went down to £40 off pounds, I asked for a quote without he free tv and he said for the original bundl, unlimited broadband and line rental but no free calls it would be £12.50 for the tv package as he was giving a discount and £17.50 for line rental and unlimited broadband. Best thing to do us ring up sky and see what quote they give and thenot say I'm looking for and cheeper deal and mention you are looking around as they may offer you a good deal. Also they have the deal with the free 32inc telly and the minimum for the TV package is £20 hope this helps. Of they do give you a price that's quite expensive then mention " well that's a bit expensive as I'm a new customer can you not do me a bit good deal" lol I always be cheeky and ask that and they normally do knock something off Hope this helps.

Surely as a new customer you can get M channels, BB and evening and weekend calls from vm for far less than £70

Even existing customers don't pay that much oO

Cancel and give a contact address for where you are moving to, but make sure you tell them you can't get cable there.
If you want M channel then would Freeview or freesat do? Buy a Humax box and then just look for an unlimited BB offer with phone, I like sky for that but are certainly cheaper ones out there

I pay £25 inc line rental for the above oO You need to work on your bargaining skills

do u have a outside ariel in ur new property we are with bt tv broadband and phone we cant fault them but it requires a digital ariel.. we have had virgin and sky but this is so much better quality and cheaper .. we got a £100 saisnburys voucher for joining not sure what they deals are at tho mo but i highly recommend them, u can build your own packages,

    Thanks all.

It has been a while since we reviewed the contract with Virgin. Will defo give Sky a call to see what can be had. I guess that the price we pay maybe because of the unlimited BB and phone?

    Thanks

as a ex installer for both, let me ask this

do you watch movies and sports via virgin or sky?
what sort of BB speed do you need?

if you are loooking for a all in one, sky is good as loads of cashback deals and also on avg 20mb-40mb fibre phone line net. I have virgin BB and sky tv. I pay £77 a month for all channels (plus sports and movies) and 3 boxes

    and £27.99 for 200mb net

virgin is not what it once was. 3 for £30
if you want sports and movies they charge £42 or so on top of a tv deal
sky is £25 and also do deals every 6 months

Hi, thanks for this. We do not watch movies/sport. We use Netflix for this. In terms of BB speed, something that allows us to play online games without interruption. I think by the sounds of it, I would be better off going for Sky.

    Thank you

I pay £38pm with BT for unlimited 51mb fibre, line rental with evening & weekend calls, a mobile sim with 4gb data, 500mins & unlimited text, & Youview box with their standard package including BT Sport HD.

I also had a new line installed for free (£130 usual cost), £150 MasterCard, £60 Amazon gift card and £160 cashback from quidco which got paid within 6 weeks of the installation.

you said it was £70 a month. For M channels, BB and evening and weekend calls.

Now you are saying unlimited BB & calls which will be more

For M channels, 70mb BB, landline & evening and weekend calls; you should be getting around £30 per month as a new customer. NEVER tell VM where you are moving to as you wont be a new customer then.

BT TV comes down the phone line and has nothing to do with a 'digital' aerial.

Virgin for BB, Sky for TV....not the cheapest but you get the best service form the best providers this way....

For the freeview channels you do need the digital ariel .. the rest are streamed from your internet

Thanks Chocci, it is unlimited in the sense we have uncapped downloads currently. I will make sure to not tell them that I am moving, and just that I am cancelling. This is all excellent advice. Thank you.

Virgin dont cap downloads, all speeds are unlimited. 70mbps is the lowest (some report 50mbps) but that is more than enough for a whole household streaming / online gaming simultaneously.

So after speaking to virgin they offered me the following:

Brand new TiVo box for free
    Super hub 3 for free
    Installation for free
    Tv M
    Phone
    100mb bb

    For £47 a month.

Is this a good deal? I am happy with it, but I don't know much!

No, that's still a Terrible deal unless it's unlimited phone calls.

    £27 here
