HELP with a trojan please (Vista Anti-Spyware)

I appear to have the Vista Anti-Spyware trojan on my laptop and I am struggling to remove it.

I tried Spybot and it found it, so I asked for it to be removed but it doesn't seem to have worked and spybot can't now find it.

Does anyone have any free programs they can recommend or a manual solution.

    Thanks in advance

try the online scan...house call by trend micro.

You could try going into safe mode and try running av from there or just run system restore from safe mode and take it back a week or so.

    Hi,

    You could try -

    Malwarebytes anti malware

I use this and Spybot, never had anything it hasn't found and deleted yet.

On Spybot, ensure you run IMMUNIZE from the main screen once the scan is complete.

    cheers

I got this virus on my netbook and I had to format and reinstall.
Avg won't cute it, trend won't cure it and it boots itself in safe mode too!!!
I'm pretty good with viruses and have never seen one as aggressive as this one. Every time you kill it's process it relaunchs itself 3 or 4 more times and mutates.
I refused to pay for another copy of windows so ended up installing ubuntu. The good thing is it's easy to use, foes everything windows does, doesn't really have as many(if any) viruses and best of all it's totally FREE

Thanks for your help guys. Malwareby found and deleted, but on restarting my security centre has no spyware or malware protection. Is it too risky to go online and download avg?

Malware bytes didn't do it nor did spy bot.
Another thing to add too, this virus takes control of any .exe file you try to launch and stops the file running, hijacks it and launches a malicious windows style anti-virus program.
There is a file I downloaded from somewhere that kills all non essential applications that in theory allows you to clean your system up, but every time I used it the virus would beat me to it Grrrr feckin viruses

The best way as always is doing a clean install or run the system restore partition if your laptop has one. That way you know its gone.

I went to fix a pc running xp last week and it had also turned all files and folders as hidden so it looked like an empty hard drive with no files or programs. Took me 10 mins before I realised it. I then backed all user files up before re installing.

Deffo best way and dont forget to back up your stuff.

If you run IMMUNIZE on SPYBOT, it will now alert you everytime the registry is trying to be changed and then you can dis-allow anything you know is dodgy.

I would download the avg free.

    cheers

Lol - google is your friend for this badbOy - easy to get rid of with the registration code for vista antivirus believe it or not - and malwarebytes

If you want an AV, then seriously get windows security essentials if your running windows - best sub £30 av I've used (it's free btw) and has stopped everything

It is risky at any stage to put AVG on your system. it is crap!

as above, put MSET on your PC or AVIRA
