    Help with an Iphone 3G

I know there are some extremely clued up people on here who may be able to help with this one.

I just bought a 16gb Iphone 3G off someone to use my o2 sim in however, I have taken theplunge and purchased the T-mobile deal posted here at the weekend.

Any ideas on how to unlock the Iphone 3g (4.0.2) to run on any network.

I'm not great with flashing firmware etc but if there is an idiots guide to a failsafe way of doing it, I'll give it a try.

    Thanks in advance.

Request an official unlock from O2, you'll have to have £15+ of credit on your O2 sim card (unless you have a contract with them, in which case it'll be free) - takes up to 14days to process, though mine was done the day after requesting when I unlocked my 3GS last month.

I just tried calling but they wouldn't allow me to unlock it, even with my contract because I didn't buy it initially.

    Doh!

    Thanks Pr3cious18.

Nah, go back to the person you got it from, and ask them to apply for it to be unlocked.

    Shouldnt be too hard

It needs to be restored and set up as a new iPhone to unassociate it with the previous persons iTunes account.

The iPhone I have was purchased from a lady who originally got it on contract, I applied for the unlock, which was 1st rejected as the iPhone was not activated by my own sim payg O2 sim card (I called them to ask why it was rejected and they said the iPhone was not associated with my sim card, I was told to restore, setting it up as a new iPhone and activate it using my payg sim). I managed to unlock it on a 2nd attempt using the same payg sim though I had to wait 24hrs after activating for my sim to be associated with the phone then it was unlocked fine.
