help with bycycle for work please

I have a crappy steel bike and there are that many things that need repairing brakes, wheels etc i just want to get a new one, i would like to stretch to £300 ish but dont want to spend too much really incase it gets nicked while im in work.So £200 ish would be great. Its only a 20 min ride but even so it would be nice to have a bike where i dont have to pedal 50 times to move a couple of yards lol, anyway any help would be appreciated, thanks

try tesco or amazon-they had some before Christmas-or check your local freecycle incase someone is giving one away (no pun intended!)?

See if your work subscribes to the Cyclescheme initiative. This allows you to offset some of your salary before tax against buying a bike to use to ride to work. In effect the government pays for some of your bike for you. Not all employers do it but worth checking.

thanks mate i dont think they do but i will double check with them

What about a second hand one ? loads of them about . Where I live there's a Sunday market/boot Fair and a chap who sells bikes in very good condition for about £25. My other half bought a mountain bike [ladies] with gel seat for £25 . No suspension or anything fancy ...............it did have brakes and gears !..............but was in excellent condition . Worth looking around the fairs .

er. could be a whole load of reasons, worn cable, bent derailleur, worn chain, worn cassette/freewheel, a mixture of all of them. can add up to an expensive repair.

carerra subways are great bikes for commuting. if you want to avoid derailleur gears then look for a subway 8, it comes with hub gears. very low maintenance and they dont look flash therfore hopefully not a thief magnet.

Good bike for the price also has disc brakes front and rear but you may want to change the tyres for regular road use.
