Help with choosing PC Games, please.

My son is getting a PC set up for gaming for Xmas (well he's asking Santa for it!) and I'm looking at PC games for him.
I think he'd like all that World of Warcraft type games (he is 12) but the new one seems to be an Expansion pack so I presume that I need the original game but when I look at that it doesn't say that use can use it with Vista.
What should I do? Should I choose different games? Any recommendations?
Can anyone direct me to games that will work with Vista.

Help much appreciated.

What sort of games is he into as there is a wide range.
World of Wracraft is 14+ and has a £9 a month subscription as well.

I would avoid WoW unless you want him addicted to it like a druggy!

lol the sweeping remark that this happens to everyone..........

Anywho back to the point in hand, yes WoW has a monthly subscription fee but there is a another if slightly older game Guilds Wars a MMORPG, no subscription fee and several updates and expansions. Its still very popular and has a pretty good community.

Well I think we'll give World of Warcraft a miss cos I don't want to pay a subscription and I don't really want him online gaming.

He just loves Civilization Revolution - he's not so keen on actual shoot-em-up games but he loves the whole moving troops and strategic thinking.

Massively multiplayer online role-playing game its the same genre that WoW is.

If he likes Civ Rev, then might be worth looking at Civ IV for the PC, a few expansions for ti as well.

try a game called caesar, you are roman and have to build towns / cities while keeping the residents happy, its very long game, i tried to complete it but its too much for me

I wouldnt recommend WOW, its game you cant complete and people just become obsessed with it to a point ive never seen with anything else.

i have a load of RTS games i could part with

Ahh so it's RTS's you want.

Try Command and Conquer 3, Red Alert 3, Total War Series, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, Battle for Middle Earth, Age of Empires series, Dawn of War, Sins of a Solar Empire.......and I could go on and on

Sins of a Solar Empire, Command and Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 are the most recent ones.

Look at uk.gamespot.com/, metacritic.com/ or similar for reviews.
