    Help with computer please.

My daughters computer will not boot up, it does the following at start up,
'We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose last unknown good configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked.

If your previous startup attempt was interrupted due to power failure or because ethe power or restart button was pressed, por if you aren't sure what is the problem choose start windows normally.'

    It then has the options
    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt
    Last unknown good configuration
    Starts windows normally

I have tried all of them but none seem to work, when i click any of the safe modes it just comes up with a load of writing that looks like file places and nothing happens and when i click 'last unknown...' or 'starts windows...' it just restarts and goes back to the same screen.

I think it might be a case of head for the tip with comp under My arm! Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

Do you have a Xp or vista disc ? ( whichever it uses )

Any cards or discs in the drives?

If none of the options seem to work, go to the safe mode option and leave it for a while, sometimes it can take absolutely ages to boot to safe mode.

The text you see is it running system files to check things and boot up. If after a long time it stays stuck on a particular one, take note of what it is called, and type it into google to see what comes up.

take out ALL USB devices (apart from keyboard, if it is a USB keyboard)
switch off at wall... leave for 1 min - switch on.
if 'last known good config' doesn't auto fix, lookup the tech support for the particular model and see if they have boot up keystrokes to run diagnostics.

(ie - if it is a DELL try + to run a hard drive test on boot up)

    good luck.
