Okay I wouldn't accept that unless you are in need of something instore. SOGA would surely support a refund. 2 Year European warranty.

Seems a good price for what they are offering you as this pc would cost less now, and i know people who have had to fight for this sort of compensation after 14 months, i would say take it and sell the current parts off

Okay, tell them you want a refund or a replacement Tower with the same or better specs then provided. Plus you want the hard drive removed and wiped as personal information will be left on. If not you will move the matter forward with trading standards. Offering you a partial refund unless you bought it with a monitor and keyboard software etc is not acceptable. If they give you the refund will they take your tower?

did you buy extra protection from the shop or is it manufacture warranty, as if you did pay extra warranty from the shop they would have to replace your pc with a similar spec model or give you full refund, but this depends on their t & c, you would need to check that

if all fails hit trading standards like adam states

nope i never buy extra warranty on stuff, if this was the first time then i would happily accept but this happened before when the machine was only 6 months old my argument is that the amount offered would not buy a replacemtn of the same spec

Was the monitor included in the £399.99 price?

You need to look at how much the PC has cost you over the 14 months if you were to take them up on their offer.

£120 is too much, but itf the monitor cost £100 for example, then the nett cost to you would be £20.

I believe that if you took them to court, you could push for a cash refund, but I don't think you necessarily have the right to one.

You should've rejected it when it first needed attention.

Okay ask about your information and the replacement tower has to be the same spec or similar. The item's been faulty since you had it, so they have no real grounds to start getting funny with you. Never buy anything from curry's as they are pathetic cretins with about as much information about the product as the box dictates to them, I would seek consumer directs advise before going back.

yes £399.99 was for the base unit and the monitor

okay it happened at 6 months which gives you a better chance of getting full refund as its a ongoing problem, you would need to call them and say you want a similar or better spec pc or a full refund in cash ( in writing) if your not happy with the response then you would need to get trading standards involved and/or take them to a small claims court, (which doesnt cost much like £40)

280 is fair then! Is the monitor a branded company if so they used to cost around 100 a year or so ago.

the UK doesnt have a 2 year European warranty. get your facts right. it wasnt taken into UK law. we have the sale of goods act that covers for longer but after 6 months, the onus on proving the fault was there from time of purchase is down to the customer, not the retailer.
So many people think the UK has this 2 year warranty, but we don't.

by the summer of 2011, tho Currys/PCW will be giving a 2 year warranty as standard on PCs and laptops as part of the rebrand from Tech Guys to KnowHow.

The SOGA doesn't say they have to offer her the same spec, as they are refunding, not replacing.

Currys Sell a Packard bell similar on there website which has near enough the same spec. Might be worth saying you would take that in replacement.

I saw a cheaper one. For £299 they might meet you on that, and you would be happy. I take it the computers only used for surfing photos and music.
