Help with finding a product - previous thread on here - DIY and painting on wood

There was a thread on here where someone was asking about painting over a coat of paint on a skirting board or dado rail without removing or sanding it first.
Obviously if we do this normally the new paint will flake, but someone knew of a product that you put on that allowed you to paint onto it without the flaky paint issues - but now I can't find it!!

Any help would be fantastic!

hammerite 'nuff said.

On a more serious note, I needed to redo all the glosses last week in the lounge and couldnt be bothered with the fiddly painting with brushes so had the bright (or not) idea of spraying them with aerosols, masked everything off and let rip, did the whole room in about half an hour, including matching rads! Bonus in the fact they was dry within 30 minutes to the touch.

Lovely smooth finish, only down side was being high as a kite afterwards!

are these aerosols specifically made for doors? if so, what make are they?

weird thread. Never had any problem over-painting existing gloss.

obviously better to sand slightly for a key but only a few minutes effort with a sanding block.

Just standard wilko's multi-surface aerosol enamel, suitable for many surfaces,

Used it on several projects, indoor and out, and its very hard wearing once set, even did it on my formerly white hd-dvd add-on for the 360 so it matched the elite.

had i known about this then i would've gone for it as we just done my mum and dads house.

It's aways best to 'key' a surface before you paint it . Use a light grade sand paper or aluminium oxide to dull the normaly shiny surface .I always use an undercoat first ,then finish with the gloss .Some folk like to cut corners and miss the primer/undercoat and just paint the surface with gloss , these sort of folk can end up on that TV program called 'Cowboy Builders' .Allways best to put a basecoat on first. There was a product out years ago called 'ESP' ,it was a multiuse primer ,you could use this on contiboard etc ,the type of wood wardrobes and kitchen units are made out of .Once dried it would take any type of paint .Dont think you would want to use this type of primer on ordinary wood .ie,flooring ,dado skirting.

It has its down sides such as needing to mask everything off, then there's the fumes, I had fans blowing out of both end windows and fumes took about 2 hours to dissipate, I had an advantage that I did this with no flooring down and was going to emulsion afterwards.

My tip do glosses before emulsions as its easier to wipe wet emulsion from gloss than the other way around!
