Im looking to cook my wife a special meal. She does all the cooking and felt it was time i did some. Im no Gordon Ramsey but an ideas on simple ish meals that would impress?
Her favourite food is white meat and salmon

cant go wrong with lasagne? and a chocolate cake. not at the same time tho

spaghetti bol followed by vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries, with slightly warm choc sauce.or
Steak, chips and peas followed by chocholate cake and cream/custard.

Nice fillet steak with pepper sauce, served with potato wedges & roast vegetables

Why not let everyone know what your wifes favourite sort of food is (fish, steak whatever). More chance of finding the simplest thing that she will really like then;-)

chicken in a mushroom and cream sauce served with fresh seasonal veg, strawberry cheese cake to finish

i can give you two easy recipes for a Thai meal with chicken and an italian meal with tuna,,,,
both have chillies in though....

chicke breast sliced open filled with cheese breadcrumbs and a bit of barbeque sauce, fold back together wrap bacon around it and bake it @ 200 for about 25 mins, serve with bbq sauce chips and salad,, and a cheese cake for dessert, really easy to do.:thumbsup:

Cook time: 1 hour 50 minutes

[COLOR=#5a6b31][/COLOR][COLOR=#666666][FONT=&quot]500g skinned salmon fillet
500g skinned cod or haddock fillets
100g butter
1 small onion or leek, chopped
40g plain flour
300ml hot milk
1 bay leaf
cayenne pepper
15g fresh parsley, finely chopped
200g large peeled prawns
750g boiling potatoes
150ml milk for mash
6 spring onions, finely sliced
salt and freshly ground black pepper
green vegetable, such as broccoli, to serve [/FONT][/COLOR]

PREPARATION:

[COLOR=#5a6b31][/COLOR]1.Peel the spuds and place in a pan of water ready to boil
2.Place the fresh fish in a wide pan, season and add water to come just below the top of the fish. Simmer gently for 7-10 minutes until the fish is just cooked. Remove the fish and flake into bite-sized pieces into a baking tray along with the cooked prawns. Reserve the cooking liquor.
3.Melt 40g butter in a pan and cook the onion or leek gently for 5 minutes without browning.
4.Stir in the flour, cook for 1 minute, then gradually stir in the hot milk, whisking to make a smooth sauce.
5.Finally, stir in 300ml of the fish cooking liquid. Add the bay leaf and simmer very gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. Add a little more liquid if the sauce seems thick. Season, add a pinch of cayenne, then stir in the parsley. Arrange the cooked fish and prawns in a baking dish. Pour over the sauce.
6.Heat the milk, remaining butter and the spring onions together in a small pan until boiling, then beat into the potatoes. Season well with black pepper.
7.Spoon the potato mixture over the fish and smooth down. Cook at 190C/375F/gas mark 5 for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling. Serve the pie with a green vegetable such as broccoli.

i wake up with the sun which I dont mind in summer but can be a pain in winter :w00t:
