Help with getting a flat and what the council will pay...

So my 17 year old mate is looking to get a flat on his own to rent because his mum is going to live away and he doesn't want to go...he doesnt go to college or any other form of education and doesn't have a job...will the council pay for his rent? Or will they help?

They shouldn't do, he should go with his mum if he cant afford to stand on his own two feet.

    +1

Of course they will. It's what the rest of us pay taxes for. Isn't it?

Did you see that family on telly last night, £29.5k pa (benefits), not worked for 7 years. Nice.

Tell him to get the local bike preggers.

    Job done

So what's keeping him then? No job, no college? If he can't afford it then why should the taxpayer have to pay?

why should they pay for him to live in a flat/house for free tell him to get a job

Housing Benefit - ]http//ww…926 - Or phone the council and ask!

Although i do follow what other people have said. If he doesnt go college or work or anything, what's he going to live off? How is he going to pay bills (gas, electric, water, etc.).

i saw it did you see the kids up at after 12 running around it was horrible feel sorry for the kids

and yes they will pay his rent probs 90% if hes a dole waller

he needs to have a appointment with your local council, they will help but if its like my area there is a very very long waiting list, my OH cousiin was on the waiting list for 7 years

If i was the council, i would definitely give him a house.

Don't feel sorry for them... bet they have lovely holidays. I would on that sort of money... What I don't understand is how the kids still turn out like that. If me AND my OH were both at home all day every day, and had all that money too, our kids would be very well turned out indeed. As it is, we get by quite well on a single income (because I choose not to work - to bring the children up) and our children are the adorable little angels they should be. Obviously they are devils too, but they do what they are told... most of the time!

I think whats gonna make people annoyed here - is here is a young guy who by the sounds of it just wants to do NOTHING - not working and not interested in going to college. He is just a kid but also an adult if you know what I mean, yet he is already looking into ways to get free rent. Can you imagine your daughter at 17 asking you to find out info like this for her!!!!! You would go mental!!

It's quite simple really, either he can afford to look after himself or he has to go with his mum.

Tell him to call Shelter on 0808 800 4444. They should be able to help him out or at least give him advice.

Don't forget to support your friend through this, there are more important things in life than money

Fair enough to a point, but as others have said, why should he believe he is entitled to benefits if he has a home to go to, and decides the taxpayers should pay for his 'choice'?

    fair doos

Without reading the thread, only the op, he can ask, but if his mother has room for him he will get little or no help from the council. he may in time get offered accomodation in an 'undesirable' area, and he will get some help then towards rent and council tax until he gets a job. then he will still get help depending on his income and actual rent and council tax costs. everyone is entitled to something.

sounds like a really great friend
