Hi I've just bought a hd box off ebay to replace my + box. Am i right in thinking I can just swap them over and get sky to pair the card with the box? How does that work, do i set it up first and then call? do they set it up via phone line and is there any charge?

also is there anyway of transfering my planner programs I've recorded or will I have to watch or lose them before changing over?

Thanks in advance for any help, rep will be left

do you not have to pay an extrra £10pm, for hd?

yes for full channels, but thought i'd try the free bbc and c4 ones to see if its worth it. the hd box was only £50 so thought it worth a try (and better than the 6wk wait from sky and 12month contract!)

just found copy+ anyone used it?

Had a nightmare doing mine - they couldn't pair my card with the box - took them ages and ages - but once done worked a treat. Hope you get a good technical support advisor!!! Cost me over £20 in calls! (over 13 calls needed!)

13 calls! not good. what did you do about your recorded programs?

Copy+ is great, I used it when upgrading the drive in my HD box a while ago.

All you need to do is open both the sky boxes to remove the drives and then hook em up to your PC in order to transfer the programs over.

ah ok, not sure I want to open them incase i went wrong. was hoping you could do it straight from the usb socket on the front

guess I'll watch what I really need to and just lose the rest.

i suppose once you've paired with another box you can't go back to the old one, right?

You cant swap hard drivedsover Sky+ uses the old cables and HD uses ESATA connections, also the drive on the HD box is 300gb alot bigger

You cant use the USB socket either its disabled, and once you have paired the box the card wont decode the recorded programs on the old box if they were subscription channels

wasn't looking to swap them but copy from one to other, I have a caddy with both connections so I might try it.

also the program's aren't from subscription channels, just series off normal channels I haven't had time to watch yet

Yeah you can copy them using copy+ dead easy to use

is any conversion needed, or do i just copy from + to hd and away I go?

No you need to use the program Copy+. just copying data wont work

skycopyplus.co.uk/

Original Poster

yes sorry I am using that program but it also talks about using the conversion tool if changing box types and it wasn't clear to me if I'd need to use that step or not. i have 2 caddys i can use so can copy straight from one to next

ok just re read the instructoins and as i'm not changing disks then copying should just work fine

thanks for your help, fingers crossed it all goes well tonight ;-)

ah i've had to give up! the drive in the hd box was much bigger than my caddy, mine are laptop caddy's! hadn't thought about that, oh well will have to wait for hd till after i've managed to watch some programs i think. or maybe just stream the programs ;-)
