Help with ipod/itunes please

Hey guys, am looking for some help here please.

My old computer died and I have just got a new one, now trying to put itunes back on the new one and get my ipod sync'd again. Is there anyway I can copy everything straight from my ipod onto my new computer?

So far I've managed to put all the songs back into new computer as they were saved to an external hard drive. However I've lost all the playlists, song counts and quite a lot of album covers. I now assume when I connect my ipod it will get wiped and replaced with what's now been put on the computer?

Shall I delete everything off the computer and start again? If so is there a way to extract everything off the ipod and copy it to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Which iPod is it?

There is no support from apple about this kind of thing, but try Sharepod, worked for my iPod touch but not for my classic, some probs with my computer.

It's a fairly new classic bought last year, 80GB.

I uploaded my ipod onto new computer from this. It was pretty easy and I am no computer expert!

Thanks, I'm just giving that a try now - do you know if it copies the album artwork and play counts over too?

Old laptop is broken, apparently the motherboard is fried and trying to pick it apart and recover the HD is a task I don't relish.

Not sure - it was for my daughter - copying the old ipod to new laptop as old one knacked which had her library then putting on to new ipod. Don't know if artwork copied over and she hasn't said anything about it being missing! Sorry!

I had deleted my daughter's Itunes library as she had moved home and no longer used her Ipod - then she decided about a year later that she wanted to use it again!

I found an excellent bit of free software that copies all music/videos etc back onto Itunes. You can find it at www.kennettnet.co.uk and it's called 'MusicRescue'.It's free and if you don't bother registering it then you just get a prompt asking if you want to every time you use it but you'll probably only use it once anyway!!!:)

Alternatively, try this previous thread, it had some useful tips and websites on it....
