    Help with Microsoft Outlook Contacts

    Hey,

I am leaving my company today, and want to take my email addresses with me (I’m allowed, no conflicts before anyone goes down that route!). I know how to export contacts that are on my contacts specific page, but I have A LOT more email address I access through typing in the “To” box on Outlook and it having saved previous contacts. Almost like a quick contacts list. I hope you can understand what I mean by that.

How can I export all those email addresses, preferable into some sort of Excel file. I use Mozilla Thunderbird at home and I’m not sure you can just directly import into that.

For the addresses in that auto pop up as you type do the following:

If you go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME_HERE\Application … If you go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME_HERE\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and copy the contents of this folder over to the new PC in the same place and you should be good. Of course you'll need to change the drive letters to suite your install as well as enable viewing of hidden folders via Tools -> Folders Options in Explorer. Why this isn't copied on a FAST I don't know.

note you will lose ALL your emails / contacts on your other PC if you do it this way.

I am guessing the pop up ones are from the company repository

why not just email all of them telling them your new email address and BCC yourself so you have them all stored?

This method leaves me with Microsoft Outlook files though. Are these compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird?

I understand what you mean, but no they aren't all from the company repository. But it's a good idea in principal.

    basically:-

There are two utilities we know that can read NK2 files. The first one is a free beta program called NK2INFO. (Previously, called NK2CSV.) This program allows you to read your NK2 entries and export any or all the records to a CSV file which could be used to import back into Outlook or another address book. However, you can't use the program to make direct edits to the NK2 file.

That little program is great, and should be something automatically built into Microsoft Outlook!

All sorted, all emails contacts I want now in a nice txt file.

    Thankyou all for your help!

I have always taken copies of my PST file, whenever I have left a company, and assorted files that may be useful in the future.
