If it were for a phone, I'd say avoid 3.

However for mobile broadband, I genuinely think they are about the best.

Certainly if the 1/2 price offers are still available, its a no brainer. 5GB cap for £7.50 a month with free modem is a steal.

Yes, like most providers they will sting you of you go over the limit - but dont let that put you off. I use mine almost daily. I've had it for about 3 or 4 months now - and only just gone over 1GB in all that time. The software tells you how much youve downloaded - and you can get 3 to close down the account temporarily if you go a bit mad and reach the limit. (ie so you wont pay a penny over the monthly fee.)

However - one thing you need to be sure. The places you want to use it - make sure it works ok. I dont need mine at home - which is just as well - 3 is carp here. However on the train and at work its excellent. (OK - its not excellent on the train when I go through tunnels - but you get the picture!)

I'll see if I can dig something out..... BRB...

Even if it's tough cancelling with them when you want(so I'm told), you can't really go wrong at £7.50 pm for 5GB's

Anyone know if the optional wireless router works well and if xbox live or psn would work ok thru it? what kinda data does online gaming burn up? sorry for the tough questions lol

Sorry to you skusey for hi-jacking his thread too - think of my posts as free bumps

I doubt it would be hard to cancel on broadband - though I know what you mean about their CS!

Not so sure the throughput for gaming would be enough. Haven't tried it on mine - though I'd also image it may well hit your download rate a fair bit! Have you ever tried viewing what usuage you have when online for a gaming session? That should tell you that info!

As for the router.... haven't a clue! Why would you need one at home?

I was thinking about ditching my isp and going mobile with broadband. Thought maybe about having a decent allowance then being able to pump my wireless broadband around the house to my ps3 and xbox 360 etc - obvo laptop and any other devices I liked.

    Sorry Skusey:oops:

    Another friendly bump:thumbsup:

    Bought the 3 package..boy it's soooooooo sloooooow
Both at work in Manchester and at home.
Says it's on HSDPA and have the nice cyan light to indicate it's the fastest connection
Also cuts out after 5 mins and the modem gets really hot...please tell me it's faulty and I can send it back

    PS Sorry Skusey

    3 @ £7.50/month for 5gb.

See this post & choose your model/colour modem: hotukdeals.com/ite…=37

This offer is valid until the 31st October from what I can tell.

    18 month contract.

Very stable connection in various places all over Kent from my 2 weeks of use. Very fast surfing / streaming if on HSDPA.

Poster above - modem getting hot could be normal (mine gets slightly warm - but not 'hot'... If by cutting out you mean your computer seizes to recognise it then it may well be faulty. Give 3 a call.

EDIT: and don't forget your £12.50 Quidco!

I don't think that's a good idea, mobile broadband is fine for a single device for basic tasks however while the bandwidth is pretty good the latency is all over the place which makes it pretty much useless for gaming. I wouldn't run multiple devices through a mobile broadband connection either, I'd only use mobile broadband where it wasn't possible to get ADSL/cable or for a temporary setup.

My opinion is much the sams as guv's, while I wouldn't touch 3 with a bargepole for a mobile phone I decided their mobile broadband package was best for my usage. So far it's been better than I expected as I've managed to get HSDPA coverage in areas where I wouldn't have thought I should be able to and the bandwidth is usually pretty good, averaging between 512kb/s and 1Mb/s. I noticed in the CPW window that 3 seem to now have some pretty good prepaid packages (for the year), if buying again 3 would probably be my first choice.
