My friend went to show me something on his laptop so connected it to his tv via a vga cable

I said oh i thought your tv is 1080p as the res for the tv display at like 1300 something - anyways i clicked the best res and the screen blacked out then the screen came back on and started flickering and now i cant see the tv on his screen - hes pretty pissed but i know its a simple thing to fix

Hers running windows 7 from his lappy

lots of TVs with VGA input will not allow 1080p and will be 1366x768 max.. Use either hdmi>hdmi or dvi to hdmi to try and get 1080p or rather 1920x1080

Nvidia or ATi
