    Help With Photoshop (Blending Layers/Images)

can anyone help with with "blending" I dont really want done for me, but for some to explain how to do it.

I have one image, and a green banner to merge into each other?

It's probably easier to see examples than have someone explain them on here. This should get you started.

If it is - just use the gradient tool (which is hidden behind the bucket icon)

yea, what other one is there lol ... (its a **** example but you get the jest!)

    image 1 / layer 1: roof guy
    image 2 / layer 2: blue background

what u want is to have both layers to merge but you control the opacity, and how soft the edge is.

    A. LAYERS
    a) blue background as bottom layer
    b) roof guy on top layer

adjust both images till you're happy with position.
then depending on image you might want to clean up the edges (roof guy) or blurr it
Use 'Feather' tool for softening image edge (you'll prolly need to know how to use this)
OR Use 'Eraser' tool to erase bits off the edge of roof guy image

    B. BLENDING
    a) using 'Apply Image' (Menu > Image > Apply Image)
    b) make sure 'Preview' is ticked on
    c) click on 'Blending' in the dialog box
    d) test with various options in rolldown menu of 'Blending', and use 'Opacity' to control too

OR you can do this direct from Layers pallete
in its menu on the pallete, you shd be able to see 'Blending > Multiply etc etc'
opacity can also be controlled from palette too.

    C. GRADIENT
    a) blue background as gradient
(like guv says, create a background with Blue on one end of the colour spectrum to Lighter blue on the other
    using the Gradient tool)
    b) merge with the top layer (again, control the opacity and blending)

    Image Blending

    1. Get 2 pictures that you want to blend together.
Put each picure on its own layer puting the picture u want blending on the top.

(green background / bottom layer 2)

    2. Using the rectangle marguee tool on the top layer, make a rectangle selection of what u want blended.

    3. Go to SELECTION>FEATHER. A box will pop up. this will determine come much the pictures will blend together. Choose 30 (for eg).

    4. Make sure the rectangle that u made in the beginning is still there. And hit Clrl + C (copy). This will copy the top image. now click Clrl + V (paste) this will paste the top picture into the feathered rectangle.

ill do that, and get back with more rep. cheers

Would it not be much easier to use a layer mask with a gradient, it'd be easier to retouch it after if you weren't happy with the initial result as you don't remove any of the image, just hide it.

    Examples:
    Original 2 layers:
    http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/7546/picture8se5.png

    With horizontal gradient mask:
    http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4738/picture9el4.png

    With radial gradient mask:
    http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5483/picture10ub7.png

    With reflected gradient mask:
    http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4003/picture11kq6.png

You can see in the layers window that the blue square is always there, the mask just hides part of it, you do not have to erase anything.
