I am looking to buy a half decent camcorder but don't know what I should be looking for, so if anyone has any suggestions i.e. what make and price should I be looking for? (I was thinking between £300 - £400, or would I need to pay more?) I would be so grateful, thanks.

Hi, when you say "half decent" what do you mean exactly? What sort of things are you going to be filming?
Personally I use and recommend canon cameras. And i would recommend checking out the canon outlet on ebay. Here they sell refurbished canon products with 1 year warranty for some great prices.
I would recommend aiming to get something like the MVX25i. This includes everything you could need from a consumer camera as well as analogue and DV-in which you'll need if you want to dub your old video tapes onto dv tape and then onto the computer.

Basically miniDV is definitely the way to go, steer away from the lure of miniDVD handycams. Canon, Sony and Panasonic all make excellent cameras in this price range, you shouldn't need to spend anymore.
If buying on the internet make sure you don't make the schoolboy error of buying what you think is a bargain just to find the camera is NTSC. You need a PAL camera to view and edit efficiently in this country.
If you need any further advice ask me, I'm a videographer by trade and know a thing or two about cameras.

Thanks so much to you both for replying. I am no good with anything technical! When I said half decent I mean I don't want to buy an outdated one. I just want it for family use but want to be able to transfer the recordings onto my PC, and then onto DVD's. Someone has recommended a Panasonic NVGS35B, any views on this one - seems to be around £400, do you think this will do what I want? Thanks again for your help.
