    Evenin' all.
I am staying at my folks while i search for a new house in this area and was wanting to attach my sky box to thei dish so i can get freeview in my room does anyone know how easy this is? What cable do i need and what tool do i need to get into the port on the dish?
    Cheers

standard f connectors should screw into the lmb on the dish (providing there is a spare connection) and coax is the cable to use, wilkinsons will sell both, but i think you will need a freesat card from sky to get freeview tho, these are about £20 one off payment

hmm, very easy if they have a spare port on their LNB- f-connector and a length of coax cable. Some might think it a bad idea though - what with electrical supllies being phased.

If you have an old sky card it will act as a freesat card.

I think.... might be wrong... that you will receive most of the freeview channels without a frresat card... I think the only one yoy won't receive is Ch5... You will have to have either a dual or quad LNB on the dish...

It's a quad and i still have my skycard, will have a close look tomorrow as hubby thinks we need a special tool to het to the port on the dish Cheers guys

if it looks like the picture above then the f connectors just screw on, it should be an easy job

cant your folks pay an extra £10 for sky multiroom then you would get all the sky channels they recieve

You won't need any special tools.. All you need to do is run the cable from the LNB to the receiver and connect the as ding says with the F-type connectors.. If you have not used you old Sky card for a while it may of been de-activated... Leave it in your receiver and it will re-activate.. May take a day or so.. As long as you've got easy access to the dish it really is a easy job..

That's it... Make sure you get enough cable.. You local electrical shop is probably cheaper..

    From the Maplin website..

Q)How do you actually fit the plugs? Is anything else required like crimping rings or a special tool? An answer that is actually helpful would be appreciated. -
    A) Strip back the outer sheath exposing the braiding by around 20mm and fold the braiding back on itself, cut the centre insulation back around 17-18 mm exposing the centre connector, the cable is then inserted into the plug and the plug is "screwed" onto the cable. Nothing else is required.

lol now im lost whats the LNB? Does this go in the back of the sky box and attached straight to the dish?
We are lucky the folks own a listed building so the dish is next to the back door.

I will get the cable localy now i know what it is

the lmb is the thing on the end of the arm that sticks out infront of the dish that the cable screws onto http://www.parabolic.co.uk/catalog/images/Sky%20dish.jpg

so i dont screw it in the bottom like in post 4?

On the quad LNB's there is usually a plastic weather guard that slides down over the F-type connectors.. This simply slides up so that you can add another cable..

The picture in post four will be on the end of the arm on the dish... You will need to connect a cable to it with a F-type connector..

post 4 shows a quad lmb if your folks have sky+ then two of the screws will be used just screw your cable onto a spare one
