    Help with SMTP address

    Hi all,

I am trying to view my business emails in mozilla thunderbird. I have entered my log in details correctly and have the correct pop3 address and details. I can receive incoming emails but just cannot send so i am guessing i have the wrong smtp address.

The people that own the building have a bt line but when i check my ip, it shows the isp provider as fuse-network. Can anyone tell me what smtp address i should be using? Thanks

Can anyone aid me on what i am doing wrong?

    Thanks

some email providers (mostly isps) won't allow you to use their smtp to send unless you are logged onto their network

SMTP address is usually similar to your POP3 address e.g.

    bt = mail.btinternet.com for both POP3 & SMTP

The email add is provided by telecom plus so the mail server is mailhost@telecomplus.org.uk

Then on the smtp - it says use your isp smtp

What error message do you get when sending email?

you may need to log onto your smtp as part of the send.

    I'm with O2 & use thunderbird.
    My SMTP is mail.(yoursevernamehere)
I then have to use relay.o2broadband.co.uk as my outgoing SMTP

There is something under the smtp address which asks for login name and password. Do i also put my login name and user name in there?

yes you would put your isp username and password there its different to the incoming as thats your email providers details

common mistake but server addresses never contain the @ symbol, it should probably be
    mailhost.telecomplus.org.uk
also if its a bt dsl service you will need to log on to a relaying server as well but you will need account info for that server or notify them that you need to use it so they can set it up for you.
