No need to use cable, just set it up with wifi via the app.

The speaker takes its feed from your router so when you switch off
wifi it has nothing to source the music from, the router forms a bridge between your phone and the speaker, I think this is correct though, hope it helps, have you performed the wifi setup procedure?

Yes tried everything I'm using sonos app installed it couple of times as well.

Just googled your problem. It sound like the problem maybe because you connected it to the router and it has changed the settings within the unit.
Try this:
Plug it into your router,
Go to Settings in the App > Advanced Settings > Wireless Setup
and once you complete the Wireless Setup, you will be able to move your Play:1 away from your router.

Sorted,, thanks for everyone's help...

I had a few problems initially with my sonos too, especially when using Spotify. The sonos tech guys are easy to get hold of online and they talk you through everything they're doing. Make sure you keep up with any new updates but now you're up and running you should be trouble free.
