    Help with windows 7

    Hi all.
Firstly can I say that I am a computer novice, all I do is surf and load music and photo;s so nothing too technical if possible please.
    I have a Sony Vaio VGC-V2M.
When I began my Windows 7 ultimate upgrade I had to install it on drive D as a fresh install because drive C did not have enough space. Iactually have 150gb free but only 15gb on c.
So I installed w7 onto D. The main problem that I have is my graphics card ( Nvidia Geforce fx go5700) isn't even showing in hardware.
After thinking about it I think what I should have done is made drive C larger then upgraded.
So what I want to do is uninstall w7 if poss, go onto xp, make c drive larger, then upgrade to w7.
Is this right or even possible and how if anyone knows??????
    Thank you.

I assume you were on Windows XP (you say you are going back to XP).

If so you cannot upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, you have to do a clean install.

This is probably why it offered you the D drive, as it thought you were going to dual boot the computer (have both Windows XP AND Windows 7 on the computer).

The simplest way to get round this is to uninstall Windows 7, then go back into Windows XP, and copy all your PERSONAL files from the C drive to the D drive.

Once your C drive has NO personal files on it, then boot the Windows 7 direct from the DVD, and begin the Windows 7 clean install, removing Windows XP as you go.

I am afraid your admission you know nothing about computers should have perhaps encouraged you to ask a few questions BEFORE starting the install.

I do wish people who, by their own admission, know nothing about computers would seek advice before trying to upgrade Windows.

Couldn't agree with you more about asking firstly.
    How do I uninstall w7?

In fact before doing ANY Windows install or upgrade it is VERY important to backup all your personal files (to CD/DVD, or to an external harddrive, or memory stick, or all three).

Windows installs or upgrades can go horribly wrong and you could lose EVERYTHING on your hard disk, including all your personal files.

If you have not done so, backup all your personal files, browser favorites, emails settings etc to another place.

THEN think about doing the Windows install.

Sorry but I have never had two versions of Windows on the same computer, so no idea how to delete Windows 7, but I am sure someone here will help you.

    Ok thanks for your help.

There are two videos here about upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7

    computeractive.co.uk/tv/

I have just tried to run the first video and it is taking ages to load, not sure why. Maybe the site is busy with everyone trying to find out how to go from XP to W7.

I wouldn't worry about the graphics card showing up, nVidia's site doesn't list it and Sony doesn't list any drivers for your model so chances are it's not supported in Windows 7. As long as it's showing a picture I wouldn't expect much more.
