how did you connect it to your xbox?

most likely use the headphone out on your lappy

I'm sure you would have to buy some sort of adapter/card for your laptop in order for the 5.1 sound to work. as normal surround sound works by having an amplifier that splits the sound into 5 channels, hence the ratio 5:1

yeah but i want to put it to good use...and i cant remember how i done it...someone must know..

yeee...basically i have a subwoofer and an amplifier thing...my laptop plugs into the amplifier thing by a 3.5mm jack and then each speaker connects to the amplifier...but i dont know if i plug the speakers into the amplifier or the subwoofer...cause they both have holes for them...

You will have to plug into the amplifier, as that is the location that the sound is channeled.
There is a number of ways you can input into the amplifier such as HDMI, Optical cable, USB
Maybe you could use USB to link up?

is the amp not in the sub?
it normally is on these

simplified:
laptop > amp > speakers⊂

ok so how do i connect amp to sub...i have these ports remaining...

coaxial
optical
G9 output
and a normal 3.5 mm jack point which is in the box named output

this thread needs pics

right here are the pics, the small thing is what i suppose is an amp type … right here are the pics, the small thing is what i suppose is an amp type thing...and the big thing is a subwoofer lol ok there not working here our linkshttp://img39.imageshack.us/i/84868765.jpg/http://img103.imageshack.us/i/jjjw.jpg/http://img39.imageshack.us/i/jj2o.jpg/

right, the second pic is the amp/sub
and the multi coloured outputs on the back, im guessing are what you connect your speakers to.

Original Poster

yep i have my speakers into them...i just need to connect the subwoofer and the amp together

Ok, what's the cable that's coming out of the bottom of the Subwoofer? a connection or power cable?
I think it's better if you tell the Make/Model of the Surround Sound as the pictures are difficult to see in detail lol

its a power cable...

Original Poster

i dont know the make model because it doesnt say anything on it...just competition pro multi format surroud system

I think the amp is coupled with the sub, that's why it has a power cable going into it.

tbh its really hard to tell from the pics,
and I cant find anything about that system online.

why not just try and see what fits where and find out by trial & error.

ok cheers...do you know if i only gotta plug 1 input into the sub or do i need a couple?

Ok, so i think what you will need to do (not 100% sure about it as it's quite a strange one) is to find/buy an 3.5mm to 2 RCA adapter and a 2 RCA Cable (3.5mm connects into the laptop via the headphone jack and the RCA cable connects to the Amp, it's a cable with white and red colours)
Then i guess the amp and sub would connect by the coaxial cable if you have one, if you don't have one then an optical should also work

Original Poster

both repped thank you

No Problem

OK, the amp has a co-ax digital input (the orange phono socket), an optical digital input, and a stereo analogue pair (the red/right and white/left sockets). The amp also has two sets of analogue stereo+composite video (yellow) outputs, so presumably can also switch between two sources. You'll only get true 5.1 output if you use one of the digital inputs; though it might do some form of ProLogic if you use the analogue inputs if you're lucky.

The sub has five coloured sockets which connect to the various speakers, and two sets of analogue stereo+composite video inputs which presumably feed the outputs on the amp. As the sub has a mains cable attached and a DC out socket, it presumably also has an DC power supply built-in for the amp, and it looks like you need a mini-DIN-to-mini-DIN and a barrel-connector-to-barrel-connector to link the amp to the sub to provide bidirectional signals and DC power to the amp, respectively.
