Hens. Gotta keep 'em inside till end of Feb

I hadn't seen this on the news - I've got a new-born so barely know my name at present , my mate told me DEFRA have imposed a ban on hens etc being outdoors until end of Feb due to incidences of avian flu. Just so any keepers know.

Instead of reporting, why not just tell the keeper?

I don't want to sound like a busy body, she won't get fined just some advice.

Fair enough, though by the time DEFRA get round to giving advice, her birds could have been infected. I genuinely had no knowledge whatsoever of this ban, maybe it wasn't well reported in the first place.

The thing is, over the hedge from her boundary is a big free range egg farm, all of those hens are in!

Some people, sadly, are just dozy.

I thought the ban was just for birds within the protection zones.

Thanks...don't have any but good to know what's what.

Avian influenza controls are enforced by local authorities. Breach of controls is an offence, with a penalty of up to £5,000 on summary conviction and up to 3 months’ imprisonment per offence.
