    Hermes may face HMRC investigation into allegations of low pay

    Who knew? The couriers have known for several years. Add Yodel to the list paying 50p for a courier to make 3 attempts at delivery and even then not guaranteed to be paid.

    Maybe some other companies can have some pressure instead of just Sports Directs (zero hour contract). AgeUk have care assistants on 0 hour contracts -OH travels 30mins to earn 1hr at just over min wage and no travel pay unless its from one client to another, do we value trainers over pensioners?

    It is *touch-and-go which will last longer, especially from Sports Direct.

    * Having a stroke doesn't count.

    I do wonder why it's allowed to be classed as self employment if you only work for one company, especially full time. It's obviously a wheeze to get out of paying people properly. In fact, I think there are some rules about it, but they aren't fit for purpose.

    Feel very sorry for people who work for Hermes. Our local Hermes guy does a much better job than all the others.

    I cannot believe that zero hours contracts are legal. If you do start to work on a second contract to make up your hours you are simply let go from the first. I know of people who even though they have been told there is no work that day are expected to stay available just in case something comes in last minute. They aren't paid any standby rates though. Again, if they complain they are simply not given any further hours. Can't be right. I reckon if Labour campaigned to scrap these at next election they'd win by a landslide.

    The CEOs and the elite have drafted the governance, law, contracts, management practices to be the Everest of achievement of low cost, come whatever. And they have done it to the extremely best efforts. The benefit is lower prices for customers as they make a "guaranteed" profit. In achieving these low prices, the insufficient "wages" and taxes are borne personally by low paid, working tax credit from other tax-payers and immigration workers where £6-7 is worth much more spending power when remitted back home and plus child benefits sent abroad.
    .
    Much the same as exporting low paid jobs abroad to outside of the EU. These couriers need to be physically in GB, so they ingeniously chartered a minimal labour cost route.
