Hey me again ANOTHER problem lol Argo's faulty item, not letting me return it though 3 days old.

I am getting these a lot lol

Anyway have bought a new 360 from Argos at weekend since I got it late and really wanted to play one and it was only place open at that time lol.

Anyway took it home and its not working, games load but freeze often, tried reformatting hard drive and clearing cache.

Took it back around 5.45pm and woman refused a exhange or refund and told me to contact MS, even though it was 3 days old, then when I said its only 3 days old why do I have to she did a search of the box looking for "flaws" that could prove its older i.e said the power supply brick was dusty therefiore old, then the cable had a mark on it(tiny stain from when I was winding cable up and knocked it against a pot)

Then after I still said it was 3 days old she then looked at manufacture date and said "it was made in 2007 therefore is old stock and we only sell newer models)

I argued some one and the new excuse was the serial numbers dont much, despite there being none on the box! only job lot numbers and she wasnt sure where they were on console so said since the job lot number wasnt on it, it wasnt the one they sold to me!

Finally she said MS cusomer support is only open office hours and they need to authorise a return or repair, and MS sends out an engineer next working day to fix it.

Total BS but she was the manager!

I think I should complain, wouldnt you?

Tell them they have no choice in the matter as its only 3 days old. Also tell them your going to see trading standards about it. That might make them change their mind.

i would go mental! you spend you hard earned cash and you get ZERO customer service! - i'd phone consumer standards, then i would go buy a WII !!

Have you got a reciept or can you go into your bank and get them to print off your recent account activity that shows you made payment to them for the amount of an X-Box, then go back in and give them what for. If it's gone wrong already and it's only 3 days old, sending it off for repair isn't on.

when my 360 died after 7 months I took it back to argos, at first the manager tried all that microsoft nonsense but I wasn't for budging and said its got nothing to do with microsoft my contract is with you and I am entitled to you to sorting this out. I wanted either an exchange and if not then a refund.

so long story short as i'm **** about keeping everything/ receipts, (on the back of the recipt theres a bit about all goods being gauranteed for a year as well with no mention of exemptions for the 360) packaging etc he eventually caved in gave me refund and I even got to keep my hard drive.

stick to your guns and don't let them fob you off. if you havn't got the receipt then if you paid by credit card etc they can look it up as well.

I work for argos, and can tell you that is totally unacceptable what she did, what store was it?

Tell her you know argos' policy and they have to replace with their own stock within 30 days of purchase.

And lastly - if all else fails - try another store. The level of customer services between stores differs immensly, some customer service managers are right evil...people!

If you have your receipt and only want a replacement they will/should replace, however if you asked for a refund and it wasnt in a acceptable condition they do have the right to refuse.

    Hope this helps.

Edit - reading your post over, if you havnt got a proof of purchase then argos wont have to do anything. You could try getting a bank statement showing the purchase so they can try and trace one being sold on that date. Good luck

Believe it or not that shouldnt have happened, all consoles must go for repair after 30 days, ironically its microsofts policy with argos, it is above kosher.

nah mate fortunately for the consumer microsoft and argos policy isn't above the law. you are entitled to either a repair or replacement in the 1st 6 months not to be fobbed off etc heres a great guide that helped me from over at av forums. I did get lucky with the hard drive though.

Luckily MS and Argos don't make the law.

Hang on - you have internet access, and yet, you bought from Argos instead of Play.com, where it would probably have been about thirty quid cheaper? Muh?

No reference to receipt here by the OP. Did it have receipt or not?

I am not sure where that mod got his info but he is wrong. It is after 30 days that the retailer can offer a repair or place, not 6 months. Read SGA.

I have always thought that, we have a set policy in store we have to follow, after 30 days, a retailer does have the right to send the item for repair.

Still no money back but heres copy of email

    Dear

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your faulty XBox 360.

I am very sorry that you were unable to return your faulty Xbox 360. I have spoken to the manager at our store and can confirm that due to the nature of the item we would need to confirm that it is a manufacturing fault before we are able to refund the item.

I would suggest in contacting Microsoft who may be able to offer a simple solution to the problem with your Xbox 360. If they are unable to offer a solution or if you are unhappy with the solution, please return the item back to our store, along with the correspondence from Microsoft showing that it is a manufacturing fault and our staff will be happy to offer you a full refund or replacement.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or call us on 0845 640 2020.

    Regards,

    Danielle Prince
Argos Direct E-Commerce Customer Service Team.

    Anyone know what to do?

    i'm astounded at that email.

do you still have the receipt?

i'd get onto my local trading standards or citizens advice. i'm sure that they can't fob you off like that especially since its only a few weeks old. I got a refund from argos nearly 7 months after my 360 got the rrod.

head over to avforums as well for some advice.
