i don't know if you would be interested but a headphone amplifier is a nice easy project for a beginner. They are very simple circuits that will test lots of skills. i suggest a google search for a cmoy-amp. This is a good start.

i do this at college. Just start with simple PCBs, buy some from maplins or other places and most simple ones are hand clap switches (led turns on) which consists of amplifiers,IC chips and other components.

Soldering is fun but beware of inhaling fumes as it causes infertility.

You could also buy a broken radio etc on ebay and fix it yourself to give yourself some sense of achievements.

Hope this helps

thank you for the suggestions, will leave rep... might try the cmoy amp, although it looks tougher than i will be able to handle but be right lol

What the guy above said. find an old graphics card or broken electonics item. harvest the PCB and practise soldering wires to points. Start with the big ones and move on to the tiny ones. then setup a wii modding business

If you PM me your email, I can send you a long guide on how to Solder ;-)

If anyone else want's it, feel free to pm your email address

I want to do the CMoy amp or the mint tin guitar amp but i'm not sure if i'm ordering the right parts, half way through an order I give up because I don't believe its the correct component

You can get all the parts at RS components:

All the parts needed are on the list here:

Finally heres the tutorial for making the amp:

I've decided to have a go at this, but kind of stuck at the first hurdle...

when making sure you soldering a positive path do you solder the neg leg first then come out with the positive or the other way round

positive path--------(neg leg of led)----(positive leg of led)----

and do resistors have a neg and pos characteristics, and if they do how can you tell?

LED's have an Anode & Cathode, easy thing to remember is that current flows into the Anode first, just remember A before C.
So an LED would be connected with the + to the Anode & the GND. to the Cathode. Current limiting resistors are used on LED's when connected in a circuit.

No.

i think the easiest way to learn to solder is to have a go at desoldering things on old things at home and solder them in different places. Thats how i first learnt to solder.

anyone else want a guide?
