right so im off to egypt with the family at end of the month, im 17, and i would like to have a few beverages out there, does anyone know how strict it is for tourists? and could i take a fake id and get away with it if needed?

I dont think it will be strict like it is here...................................keep your liver nice and clean and drink water!!!!!

just go for it, they probably will not be able to tell how old you are so give it whirl!!!

You going to a hotel right?

I think most of the top hotels or tourist hotels sell Alcohol out there, when we went to Alexandria even the ****** hotels did. No it isn't strict, and you are going with your family, so no worries.

Just don't go to the nightclubs.

haha wot wot...its my cousins that are saying lets go to the night clubs, i mean, i dont look young, just worried about foreign laws, like the couple that were jailed for sex on the beach :P

Most hotels there are all inclusive and issue wristbands. They use different colour ones for under 18s. But bars in resort are easier. They are unlikely to even ask for I'd

Depends mate, if you look older than what you are or if you look younger than your age, it also depends on where abouts in Egypt you are going to, some places are very laid back on it but some other places are quite strict on it. HTH

lol ok, will do then

Quick question for you - I am looking at going to Egypt with my boyfriend next year - how many vaccinations did you need and were they expensive?

Re alcohol, you'll be fine in getting served, but do be careful, very different out there, can be very dangerous.

They're not strict, I got a plane to Cairo and they don't even bother to check my passport.

@kimbyanne - I never got any vaccinations.

the alcohol can be dangerous?

Odd - All the websites I have seen recommend vaccinations before you go. I can't remember which vaccinations but there were two mentioned that were recommended.

Not the alcohol, the people and culture.

I wouldn't never choose to hit the towns personally, I'd even think twice about walking down the street! Regardless, its an amazing destination. You'll love it.

Also, drink only bottled water from your hotel/shop. Make sure the seal is on.

I went to me GP, and I saw him google whether I needed vaccinations or not.

In the end I decided not to, and I'm fine :-)

you do need vaccinations. your doctor will know what ones, and they are free on the NHS.
you can also take a booster jab 6 months later that will then last for 20 years.
you don't need to take malaria pills unless you are going very specific areas, these are chargeable from the chemist but only cost about £8 (we had them this year for the dom rep) if you tell the pharmacist exactly where you are going they will check in their little book and tell you if you need the malaria pills but if you're going to sharm or somewhere like that you won't need them

It is when its spiked with roofies, and your filmed getting butt raped by a horny camel.

The chemists in Egypt aren't like the ones here, I went to one a couple of months ago to get some paracetamol's, the chemists response, "Do you want morphine syrup" I said no paras are fine, then he offered me roofies and viagra.

Why do you think its dangerous out of curosity?

A lot of people are speaking utter crap here. I should know, I have been every year for the past 10 or so years.

You can drink, but do it in the hotels or resorts, and keep away from the Nightclubs if you are not 21 or with other Egyptians. I used to have to get vaccines when I went but now I'm "topped up" I will never need them again unless I state I am going to a rain forest etc. If you are staying in the city there will be many mosquitoes and you will get bit badly, so get the jabs and take mosquito spray.

DKLS: Chemists are chemists, if you didn't know, the NHS gets many of its drugs from one of the richest people in Egypt (he owns many drug factories there). You can get things over there that are banned here and it is A LOT cheaper out there for certain meds.

Walking in the street dangerous? Well, just don't walk alone, and don't get drugged (there have been reports of people shaking hands with people, then they wake up mugged etc as the person had drugged them). And don't trust anyone.

But that's like any place in the world.

Have you seen Midnight Express?

Caught with fake i.d in a foreign country...........would you make a 'good' cellmate.

Obviously you have never been to Egypt. Yes culture is different but People are very kind and nice. They treat tourists as guests. Drinking alcohol will be not a problem for you as long you don't get drunk. Don;t have sex in public either. Egyptian see a lot of tourists and they know their behaviour. Thus they show a lot of understanding. Even police will not arrest tourists for most offences. Go without hesitation. You will have a good time:thumbsup:

Nightclubs are a different story.

Ok thanks all of you...so is the end result, dont drink in hotel or nightclubs stay in the resort?

you will be able to drink in sharm, hurghada etc. they have their own stella and sakara lager and they cant do enough for you. I have never seen anyone drunk in all the times ive been there though, but i mainly go to diving resorts and the divers dont tend to drink too much if they are diving the following day
if in sharm, thry the hardrock andthe camel bar - upstairs.
in hurghada the marina and new town are great. downtown is ok but very busyand the entertainment is great. there are night clubs all over open till the early hours and taxis are plentiful all hours. good idea to not go on your own in the taxi, just as they will try to rip you off fo the fare. dont pay them until you all get out and then pay what you agreed at the beginning and just walk off
have a great time anyway

Don't be ridiculous, of course I've been to Egypt and making the young lad aware.

They treat tourists as guest in the hotel/resort. Away from that, you're more of a 'target.'

But I strongly disagree with 'Go without hesitation.' I found that even the police are corrupt.

Trust no-one, don't drink water from the tap - buy bottled, sealed water.

Regardless, it is a fantastic place to be. Enjoy it and stay safe.
