Hi there,

There is a minimum right to paid holiday, but your employer may offer more than this. The main things you should know about holiday rights are:

you are entitled to a minimum of 4.8 weeks times your usual working week (from 1 October 2007)
the entitlement will increase to 5.6 weeks from 1 April 2009
those working part-time are entitled to the same level of holiday pro rata (so currently 4.8 times your usual working week)

you start building up holiday as soon as you start work
your employer can control when you take your holiday
you get paid your normal pay for your holiday
when you finish a job, you get paid for any holiday you’ve not taken
bank and public holidays can be included in your minimum entitlement

Part-time workers
If you're a part-time worker, you're still entitled to 4.8 weeks holiday – 4.8 of your normal working week (rising to 5.6 weeks pro rata from 1 April 2009). For example, if you work two days a week you have the right to a minimum of 9.6 days' holiday: 4.8 x 2 = 9.6.

You should be treated no less favourably if you are a part-time worker than an equivalent full-timer. This means that if your employer gives extra days off to full-timers they may have to give extra time off to part-time workers as well.

so it should work out roughly 12.7 days a year, which would be 4 weeks and just over half a day on a 3 day week

From april will be roughly 16.8 days which is 5 weeks 1 day

depends when your employer starts holidays

I have looked at these however It still does not clarify if my employer should give me pro-rata for the bank holidays even though this is not my normal days work.

I am stil confused??????

my pal works tues, wed, thurs, fri and gets bank holidays pro rata thats with boots but in my work nobody gets the monday holidays unless they should be working that day think its up to the employer

you normally don't get bank holiday pay unless its a regular working day

if you don't work mondays, you prob won't get paid for them at all

Nope they don't have to give you the bank holidays if you don't already work 'em. So as you don't work mondays they dont have to give ya them

Just checked and my hubby's entitled to two more days than he usually gets x x

just picked up this thread

I work Tues, Wed and Thurs for the county council, I get 1/2 day for every bank holiday, but if the bank holiday falls on a day I work (like Xmas did) I then owe them 1/2 day in order for me to take the day off

Hope this helps;-)
