    Holiday in turkey?

We are looking at a holiday that is just over 1600 for 11 nights in turkey for 4 of us. But loads of people at work are putting me off saying it's very dangerous.
    What do you think?

I doubt you'll have any trouble but I'd still be weary. There's always a chance

    I would.

I'd give it a miss and try somewhere like Portugal. some great deals on at the moment for 2018 like 4 star all inclusive places for 500 quid each for two weeks end of may.

We are looking at October half term.

My brother and his family went and the only downside to their holiday they said was the unorganized security checks at the airport which took several hours. Apart from that they loved it. But then again with Thomas Cook cancelling upcoming Sharm el-Sheikh flights and holidays over continuing terror fears, is might just be worth a miss.

Personally I wouldn't, but I think too much.
    Borders syria/ Muslim country.

To be honest i think you should avoid Turkey at least for now. It's a great destination for Holiday no doubt but the situation in the country in not good at the moment. There's a travel caution as well for the travelers going to Turkey. You should check that too in case it's been taken off or something.

went last year to marmaris with 5 year old and 4 month old. been to Turkey 8 times over the last 6 years. never had or seen any trouble. last year tourism was down and was a little quieter than usual but still had a great time. This year they seem to be booming again. unfortunately anything can happen anywhere in the world don't be put off. book and have a lovely time!

I have been going to Turkey every year since 2006. I was also there last year when everything kicked off with the Turkish Prime Minister. Apart from seeing more police floating about there was nothing but sunshine, good food, good beer and good people. I'm booked to go again this year in July and can't wait.
With the recent terror related attack that has happened in London has that stopped people coming to the UK? Has it made you want to move away from the UK? I'm guessing not. This is taken from the Mi5 website: "Current threat from international terrorism
The current threat level for international terrorism in the UK is SEVERE".

Book your holiday and enjoy it. Syria to the holiday resorts is thousands of miles away and although you should always stay vigilant it is like something happening in Germany and worrying that it is going to land on your doorstep at home.

    Just go, it'll be fine

You're as likely to be killed by an attack in any major city in the world. Don't let fear rule your life.

Personally I wouldn't bother with Turkey these days. Yes it has nice weather and it's cheap as chips when there but there's far nicer places and unfortunately safety is an issue.
Get over to Greece or Cyprus which is way nicer

You should only avoid a Holiday destination when when the GOV website states to do so, simply because your holiday insurance is Void, Turkey is fine to travel to and plenty of airlines and travel companies are flying there, BA, Jet2, Easyjet etc.
The syrian boarder is 10 hours travelling by car from the Tourist areas, so it is a long long way away, a lot of people are thick and don't realize this.

No problem going, between us all as a family we are there over 5 times a year, short term won't be a problem at a tourist destination, future you never know. Have a look at Dalyan

Go and enjoy yourselves. I'm going in 3 weeks and can't wait

Wow, a full 10 hours by car, I'm sure that would put those religious fanatics right off...
"Shall we go and attack the infidels?"
" I would, but it's like forever away"...

Don't let distance be a factor, don't let fear rule your thoughts, but don't dismiss common sense for a bit of sunshine...

I've been to Turkey (olu deniz and hisaranou) for the last 2 summers but won't be going this summer.

Personally I am going on holiday to Turkey next month as like others have said it doesn't matter where you go now there will always be a risk. If you look at the map then the UK is at the same threat level and I don't know about you but I don't walk down the streets looking over my shoulder for terrorists. The fact that Thomas Cook etc still fly there while they no longer fly to other countries/airports deemed a threat really factored into my holiday planning. At the end of the day though it comes down to you if you are going to be constantly fearing for your safety/the worst and looking over your shoulder I would suggest don't go however if you can treat it like any other destination and just relax and enjoy yourself you will have a great holiday at a fabulous price. Regardless of where you finally decide to go have a great time.

Went to Istanbul recently, it was beautiful, lots of culture and history to explore. There was a referendum going on as we were there but wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the news app on my phone. Apparently there was demonstrations and what not but didn't see any of it. Don't let news propaganda put u off. Have a good trip!

The argument that here at home in the UK, ....London in particular, is risky anyway holds no water. I live here and have little choice ...life must go on. But I have a choice still for holidays. And as much as I love Turkey, I shall not return until things get better. If ever!!!!

More chance of being burgled in the uk than being attacked by a terrorist in turkey.

agree with the majority here. If you can go there without being stressed out about a terror attack, then defo go. Been there a few times and loved it each time.
