link works,I will have a look.

I'd get in quick before the government pull the plug on it.

Misco will probably have a better selection, apart from that any that they stock for the £500 mark will be more than adequete.

Yeh I misread it at it 1st.

Home Access Grants still going on?? thought that might have stopped with the new gov!

toshibas are pretty decent! see if you can get something with a 3 year warranty... if a kids gonna use it... you're gonna need the warranty!

Avoid Celerons! and AMD laptops... There are some decent Toshibas out there.

Celeron / AMD are types of processors .. just incase!

The Samsung R519 is the best one.

£528 sounds generous, you should be able to get something decent for that. suprised they can afford to give away so much though. households who aren't eligible prob wont afford to spend that much on a laptop, i know i won't.

the £528 is nonsense...

It would never cost that much if you had that physical amount in your back pocket.

A 3 dongle £189 on home access grant for example. The acer machine comet were doing for £429 :lol was £287 @ svp

The other thread about this was massive, the Samsung was recommended as the best one to go for.

I think you will also find they have to pay back some money to government to get contract... (they paid something that's for sure)

Thats what happens at uni for the DSA funding, I wanted to go to my own supplier and was told by uni and LEA I couldnt(which I later found out was a lie) and had to go with a uni supplier who paid £1100 for a laptop that was £289 on Play.com and £120 for a printer that was like £40 at Tesco, like £150 for STUDENT Office and loads more.

I planned to get a reasonable laptop that was future proof for quite a few years so would become my main pc and wasnt just some overpriced laptop that struggled to even run Firefox(as the one I was given did)

I was majorly ripped off.

Yeah it's not rocket science.

The scheme is also winding up now.

Also go with positive it as you can order as soon as you get your card ( its a barclay card ) and you dont have to wait for pin then to follow a couple of days after, comes in @ 5 days and they also put an ext5ra 1gb of ram, none of the others do !, hope this helps (thunbsup),lol

enjoy the laptop our taxes paid for.
I don't remember agreeing to help the low income families get on facebook.

it is ridiculous how much they give you and what you CAN'T get for it.
the 3 12gb dongle is £79 to buy just about everywhere.

How rude are you !!!!
Pathetic comment .......oh and for your info its not a 12gb dongle ie 1gb a month for twelve months its an allowance of 3gb a month , so how about trebling that £79 eh !!!!
oh and before you ask i work for the scheme and i think its a good thing OKAY as some people are unfortunate and are UNABLE ( dont get mixed up with cba now will you ) to work so are not so well off ! so why should the child suffer !

Lets hope your never in that predicament one day hey !!!,

IF they really would have wanted to make difference they would have sorted out the contract properly, so the govt was not spending out on over priced almost obselete crap and the taxpayer got value for money. It's the same in any govt contract though or used to be. Private companies over charging for endless tat as they can because they have seen the tax slush fund as a black hole.

yes i see what you mean its just the way that slackratt77 put it that i disagreed with tbh and his insinuations that will used for facebook etc !

Why does the op 'obviously' have a pc/internet access? she could be at work, library, friends, relatives, internet cafe,on a phone !!!!

i may be rude but I stand by my point.
I didnt agree for this to happen. as far as I know, none of us got to vote on this use of our taxes.
the laptop is supposed to be used for educational purposes, but how many of them actually will?

I had to work and PAY for my own computer and net connection.
its a luxury item, not an essential

Theres lots of things that we dont get to' vote' on what our taxes are used for that i dont agree with with ! And maybe a few years back a pc was a luxury, but for most 10+year olds (younger even ) its a neccessity, as a lot of home work involves looking on the internet etc , and yes i guess there will be some that abuse it and not use if for education ! but why should they spoil it for the genuine needy ones,

Actually with very few exceptions you've hit the nail on the head, most of them only care about getting on facebook, ebay youtube. I work on a very small team covering home access and have dealt with loads of people who only care about facebook.

Also had a few who wanted to put money towards making it a mac and one who didn't want the monitor as they was going to hook it up to their hd tv and another trying to run xbox live off the dongle.

It could have been a great scheme but the selection process seems non existant.

its not a necessity. its a luxury. it should be paid for by the family, not the tax payers.
lots of libraries, schools and community centres have net access.
scrap this scheme.

Agree completely - a luxury not a necessity. I have to work damn hard to pay for what i have and for people to get it literally free is appalling!

I want 528 quid free money. Oh wait I didn't pop 5 sprogs out and have to work for nice things in life

Good point. I recommended this to two of my workshy mates and they both got free laptops. Then they sold them on ebay. Nice work.............
